GT12 - The Guitar Grimoire: A Notated Intervallic Study Of Scales Paperback – January 5, 1997

Excellent book, for every guitarist. No matter if yhou are beginner or advanced.

I have used many scale books in the past including the other scale book by guitar grimoire. At first I was a little disappointed because I thought annotated meant that it had little tips in all the pages but it meant on top of everything else, they have sheet music for everything in the book as well. The main thing I am getting from this book is the relationship between scales and intervals. I've studied music in college for a little while, I have been playing guitar for 10 years, and I must say, nothing has given me as full of an education on music theory as the guitar grimoire. They have redundant amounts of charts, but you get to choose which ones are most helpful to you. for each scale they have a full fretboard diagram in every key with the scale degrees printed on each note, they have a block diagram of each scale and it's modes to show what intervals are found within each mode, they have fingering shapes and useful "sweeping shapes" for each mode of the scale, and last but not least: they show what chords can be used with the root of each mode. I would also recommend getting the Guitar Grimoire Chord Encyclopedia to get a hang of those chords. It's like they are husband and wife. You need both as a child of music ;) I'm not too fond of the "quick mode diagram" they have, It's like the reverse of the one they have in the other scale book (you find the 1st of the mode, and then it shows you the root)but it's been a little helpful. You can learn the basics, the intermediate, and the advanced from this book. I only wish I found it 10 years ago.

An excellent book for the advanced guitar player. It brings to life the close connection between math and music. Fascinating. I recommend it to all those who are interested in playing the guitar in a far more creative and enlightened way.

I am slowly giving my grandson the entire set. He is a music/mathematics major in college and loves these books.
