Just plane awesome!!
This is my first planer so i cant compare it to dewalt or others. But from what i have seen , i am very happy with the results. The snipe is minor and with a little tweaking you can reduce the snipe to a very acceptable level. There is plenty of you tube tutorials on how to do this. This is a top notch machine and well worth the price. Tip: unless you have a very strong suction on a dust collector dont bother with the shroud. It will just clog up fast.

good starter planer
Does a smooth enough job planing for a 2-blade unit. I use it outdoors so don't really use the dust collection adapter, but it looks like a design after though. The thickness crank works smoothly enough. I still get some snipe on the board ends no matter how I adjust things, it's just the nature of budget planers. I just get longer boards and cut off the bad ends. Keep some extra blade sets on hand since all it takes is one impurity in your board to damage them, and hardwoods also wear them out fast. Good enough for someone who is just starting woodworking or a casual weekender.

Good quality tool
It works well on softer woods. Haven’t tried it on hardwood. Easy to use and adjust. It came perfectly level. Typical noise level for this type of planer.

Good Value for Money, Solid Planer.
Love this planer. It’s a heavy beast though, I don’t have a permanent home for it, so it gets tucked away and dragged out when needed. You’ll definitely want ear protection. It’s loud, and even louder with a shop vac attached. Don’t skip on the respirator or mask, even with a shop vac it can still be quite dusty. Setup was quick, it was running in under 15 minutes. I take light passes to cut down on snipe; haven’t tuned it out completely, but those shallow cuts make a big difference. The weight’s actually a plus, I move it around a lot, sometimes even run it outside, and it stays rock solid whether it’s on concrete or the driveway. So far my work pieces have come out smooth and consistent each time. I do a quick check for thickness every two or three passes, and thus far it's all been good.

Great planer for the money. Hobbyist or tinkerer
I’m a hobbyist wood worker. This is my first bench planer. So far it works great. Definitely some snipe like some of the other reviews state. It seams towards the end of the auto feed the board stops rolling and that’s when it happens. Just got to get used to pulling it out at the same speed or I was thinking of building a block to keep boards level as it comes out. I’ve been planing rustic red/white oak for trimming around windows and doors. So far so good. Wish I would have bought one sooner. I’ll update this review based on longevity after I use it for a while.

Great value, well made.
Built a screened in porch for my wife and needed to plane the trim I made on the sawmill. After borrowing a friend's much heavier planer and wrestling with it for hours I decided to buy one of my own. I have always found Craftsman hand tools to be quality products so after reviewing I decided to go with this one. I have to say so far I am very pleased. The unit is heavy enough to stay put when used but light enough not to break my back moving it. The four holes in the base also give you a easy point to bolt the unit down. I have put about 1200 board foot through this unit and it is still cutting as well as, if not better than, my friends three knife brand. The measurements appear accurate and the shavings collector all work well. If I had one issue it would be the placement of the power cord at the front left of unit. A side placement would seem more practical and out of the way. This is a quality planer that looks as if it will last the long haul. I will let you know in a future post about ease of blade replacement and cleaning. Well done Craftsman.
