The directions are on the front. Add kieselsol (packet D1) to carboy (3.8 USG/4L) of wine, etc. Stir gently. Dissolve chitosan (packet D2) in 1 fl. oz./30mL of warm water. Add to carboy of wine, alcohol mash, etc. Stir gently. Attach airlock/bung. Clears wine, etc. brilliantly in 12-48 hours. May not clear pectin haze or products made with hard water.

Q: the description states this will clear a 5 gallon batch, do you have to reduce the amounts used for smaller batches or is it ok to use the entire pack

Thanks for asking. In general, simply follow the recommended dose and use a partial pack for any volume less than 5 gallons and discard the rest.

Q: Is it normal for white foam to form at the top after adding first packet?

Yes. Later, a layer of goo the consistency of snot will form on the top. In total disgust, you will scrape that out , while trying not to gag. After the whole process, your alcohol will still be cloudy, at which time, you will want to order sparkloid.

Q: Will this fining kill yeast, prohibiting bottle conditioning for sparkling mead?

When I make sparkling mead I create a primer which is 500ml of finished mead, honey, dap and yeast. (honey/dap amount depend on what level of carbonation). Day ahead of bottling I'll create the primer. The primer should have completed primary fermentation by bottling time. I'll then transfer from carboy to bottling container (I used a 30l primary fermenter) and thoroughly mix in the primer. Then bottle. I've found this process works very well, usually takes 3+ months to fully condition..
