Lascar EL-USB-5 USB Data Logger, Counter, Event and State

Data Log is in a proprietary format and can't be read directly from USB with computer. This needed to be stated in the ad. I returned the unit and bought an Arduino that I'll program myself so I can access the data log much more easily.

I love this product because it does exactly what I need it to do. I didn't realize from the product description, but this logger also has a "relay closure" mode where it detects when a relay closes or when it opens -- which is exactly what I am trying to log regards an HVAC application. I hooked up the black and red probes across my relay outputs (disconnected from anything else), cycled the relay open/closed a number of times, and then looked at the log file, which shows date and time of day when the relay opens/closes. Yay! Very Cool, and very easy for me to get this thing going.

We use these for logging automotive accessory voltages on public safety vehicles when they have intermittent complaints. The printed graph provides great data to support our warranty claims to the car manufacturers.

I was looking for a logger that would work with HVAC controls that use 24 Volt AC; Upon arrival and reading the instructions I found it would only work with DC volt input; Confirmed this directly with Lascar support. Returned them because of this. Product description should say "24 volt DC only", not just "24 volt input"

If you have a simple project where you need to know open/close states (like, the door of a business or retail store opening).. then this is a small, cheap product that's very simple to use that's got some very nice software. It apparently can log very rapid events as well, so if you needed to do very fast moving events (pine wood derby comes to mind) this may fit your needs as well. 2 terminals on the end for contacts, the back side pulls out and reveals a USB port and you're done.

Does what it claims, but the software is very elemental.

Works great for logging times of activities. Very pleased with unit.
