Q: Would this work well with the 3.25in figures for older kids? (Not the playskool figures)

The figures that come with it are around 2" so it's pretty close but not exactly right. Depends if your kid is a stickler for things being to scale I guess ha!

Q: Does anyone still have the diagram that shows where the stickers/decals are supposed to be placed? We think we accidentally threw it away!

It might be. I bought it for my 2 yr old grandson who will be turning 3 soon. He's already really into Star Wars. I think it's designed for 3-7 year olds but 7 would obviously be at the top of that range. I think it depends a lot on the kid. I was very impressed with the quality though.

Q: do all the parts and figures fit inside when closed?

The figures fit inside, but the dish and gun have to be attached to the outside for it to close.
