Hi Bren, the 50" is measured as furthest tip to furthest tip at the widest point of the tree. As this tree is designed with certain individual branches that tend to extend a bit further then the traditional conic shape of the tree, the overall width is going to seem slightly smaller than the stated 50", and we do classify this as one of our "narrow" trees.

They are hinged. This tree is super easy to assemble. And it is beautiful. I absolutely love it!

The box is 13" wide, 17.5" tall, and 51" long.

Fluff every branch. But it is worth it. A beautiful tree
