This thing really works!
Moves a ton of water and keeps your boat and/or pilings ice-free if properly deployed.I opted for the 3/4HP version on the advice of a local marina operator that said it was more rugged than the 1/2HP version. It easily kept my son's 27 foot sailboat free of ice. There are several in the creek protecting boats up to 40 feet LOA and they all work well. Installation is simple. Hang the unit by the supplied lines and plug in.I also bought the C10 thermostat so I wouldn't have to babysit the de-icer as the temperature changed. The de-icer unit is so effective that it is not necessary to run it continuously, even when the weather is very cold. Kasco offer a C20 thermostat + timer combination that allows setting ON and OFF periods when the thermostat is actuated. I use one of these in our community marina to control the system that protects our dock. Both the C10 and C20 work well. They have a 6 degree F differential between turn-ON and turn-OFF which seems to work well. Kasco recommends setting turn-ON for 28 degrees F air temperature.

The last one of this Kasco Deicer I purchased lasted 10 years
My 10 year old Kasco Deicer blew a breaker when tested! Ordered an exact replacement and my hopes are another 10 years! A very reliable product for 10 years especially for sealing out moisture from the motor for 10 years! Have tried local manufactured units and they just don't last!

Reliable and powerful
Keeps our boathouse clear of ice in the winter and pushes weeds that come downstream away in the summer. Cover almost 20’. We’ve had just one at the upstream side for several years and bought a second for the back to be safe. No issues. Surprisingly powerful for the size.

Solid but installation design has limitations
Very powerful 3/4 hp deicer and high quality construction, just as we had expected by the descriptions and reputation. We also bought the dock-installed steel stand to secure it to the dock instead of using the attached ropes We removed the ropes to keep them from getting in the way, but would have preferred if they were designed to be removable and reattachable. We did not have more than 5 feet width to splay the ropes and phone discussion with the seller said 10 feet were needed. Therefore we bought the dock stand. An issue is the vibration produced by the deicer while running, and because the pipe we used to extend it into the water from the dock stand was in two pieces it wiggled apart. We have to find another pipe arrangement with one pipe only. Trying to manage our shallow water depth, heavy weight of the deicer, pipe length and the way the pipe attaches to the optional dock stand is difficult especially when the water is too cold to get into.It would have been less expensive and easier if we could have used the ropes.

Review of Kasco De-Icer
I have been quite impressed with the kasco de-icer 3/4 horsepower model so far. I placed it off the end of the dock and it has kept the entire area free of ice. It may have worked too well. In fact, not only is the area around my dock is ice free so is a 100 feet on either side of my dock. Some of the ice fisherman are complaining. The only thing keeping my score from a 5 star rating is the electrical draw. After the first month of usage my electrical bill jumped up quite a bit. Since then I have realized that I can run it half days and still keep the water open even in near zero temperatures. Some have bought the optional thermostat and that seems to help keep the utility bills down. Overall this thing does what it promises and will keep water open in even the coldest of temperatures.

The 3/4 hp keeps the water open quite well around my dock.More perimeter then the 1/2 hp.
Performs quite well plenty of water movement around the dock.
