NEOGEO X GOLD Limited Edition

First, what you get here is no fancy social/mobile/3D/touch device. You're getting a niche product which is some kind of hommage to the cult Neo Geo console which only plays games. If you're into modern trends ONLY, you could probably emulate all those games on PC, a smartphone/tablet, get them on PSN or XBLA... ... on with the review. Hardware side : For the portable console, the thing feels very solid and like a quality product Nintendo or Sony would sell. All buttons seems to be made very tough so nothing would break if you play Metal Slugs or any of the fighting games 'till sunrise, madness or death. There is even an expension slot for upcoming games (if there are anymore release one day). The back of the console is made of some rubber product which feels great to touch with an engraved silver SNK logo. Overall a great looking device. For the "couch" console or "portable dock", it feels a little light and fragile, tough I remember the old AES feeling this way when I held it, it could've been better. But the look is still great and you won't have to move it a lot. The "tray" is what should've been better. It doesn't close very well and doesn't open as much as it could. However, when the portable is docked inside, it does not matter if it is opened or closed. The arcade stick controller. Not bad but not that good. It's USB, which I don't mind but the cable could've been longer. And the buttons sensibility is not very good. The stick is like a charm however. For the sotware part : There's a very simple menu with minimal animation, no sounds or music, no network connectivity, no media...etc You just get to chose a game of the game gard if one is inserted. The Limited has the Ninja Master's card with it. For the games. Kind of hit or miss here for me. Like very much the Metal Slugs, Magician Lord and all fighting games. Not much the puzzle ones but I guess they wanted to mix styles and not just throwing in Metal Slugs and all kinds of King of Fighters games. Ninja Master's by the way is very good I think. Overall : A great collectors item I think. It sure won't go mainstream (I would be suprised) but it's a great product for Neo Geo/SNK fans.

Well, I have had the better part of the afternoon and evening to play around with my New Geo X Gold System and here are my impressions. I will try not to go over too much of what was mentioned before in the other reviews. In short, if you like old Jean-Claude Van Damme, Tom Selleck, Kurt Russell, and Arnold Schwarzenegger films or old cheesy action films like American Ninja, The Last Dragon and American Cyborg, then chances are this system is for you. If not, you will likely be happier with a DS/3DS or a PSP/Vita. Handheld Hardware ----------------------- The screen looks to be a TFT and the viewing angles are pretty bad. Tilting the NGX even slightly, be it up/down or side/side causes the picture to become either overly saturated or extremely dark. There is definitely a sweet spot that it has to be viewed at to see the games at their maximum visual splendor. This isn't too noticable however when actually playing the games. The screen also isn't very bright. Though perfectly fine indoors, you can pretty much forget about playing it outside. Overall it feels more like the screen of an older Gameboy Advance than a more modern DS/3DS or PSP/Vita. Same goes for the speakers, which do a commendable job reproducing sounds. I'd definitely recommend a good pair of headphones however as they really do help flesh out the more subtle sound effects and ambient music that you may not notice otherwise. The system itself feels solid and sturdy if not a bit hollow inside. The joystick, 4 face buttons and L1 and R1 buttons all have just the right amount of travel along with very satisfying clicks. The L2 and R2 buttons on the on top however feel spongy and have too far a travel for my liking. The volume and brightness buttons, located on the bottom of the unit, are well-designed and well-placed. They are large enough to press comfortably and set just low enough not to get in the way while playing. Ditto for the power toggle on the side. It requires a good amount of pressure to switch, which ensures that the chance of accidentally toggling the system off while playing is slim to nil. One thing to note is that the battery does not seem to be easily accessable, which is a bit unfortunate for those who plan to own the system for a while. It would have been nice to include a way to open the case to replace the battery when it is no long able to hold a decent charge. Software ----------------------- The system takes roughly 30 seconds to boot and the games load in about 5 to 10 seconds. Software wise, the emulation is great. I'm not a NG afficianado so I can't vouch for how closely the peformance mirrors its AES/MVS counterparts, but they do feel good. Games like Samurai Shodown 2 and Metal Slug have slow down just like they do the arcade. The frequency at which they occur as well as the extent to which they last in comparison however, I am not sure. There is no way to save games or high scores which is a bummer. Granted these are arcade games and not meant to be played for very long, it would have been nice save the progress in the action games and continue where you left off at a later time. The NGX's OS is basic but functional. The games automatically pause as the volume or brightness is adjusted which is a very welcome feature. Quitting a game and returning back to the main menu is quick and easy. The library of games included has something for everyone. Standout games for me include Metal Slug, Samurai Shodown 2, King of Fighters '95, World Heros Perfect and Real Bout Fatal Fury. There are lots of great Neo Geo games out there that weren't included in this package and I am really hoping that they will be released before Tommo decides to end support for this system. System Dock ----------------------- Like the NGX, the dock looks great and feels solid. The lid does not open all the way when the button is pressed, but it does stay up when you lift it. Closing the lid is easy and it locks in place with a gentle click. The NGX slides into the dock relatively easily. Once docked, it feels pretty secure. One thing I don't really like is that, once docked inside, it is near impossible to remove and replace game cards. To do so, the system must first has to be powered off and taken out. It feels like a needless hassle that could have been avoided had there been more space on the right side. Another issue that bugs me is that the menu button on the dock physically presses the menu button on the NGX. The bit from the dock that makes contact with the NGX looks hard and unrefined which may scratch or possibly damage the button on the NGX itself. Making that contact point softer with a felt or rubber tip would have been nice. The video quality when using the standard composite cables on an HD TV is pretty bad. Like others have mentioned there is a bit of rainbowing on whites and such. The colors look overly saturated and blurry. The picture quality is dramatically improved however when connecting via the included HDMI cable. Everything just appears so much more clear and crisp. There is a bit of screen tearing when connecting via HDMI however, but it does not get in the way of gameplay. The sound quality seemed to be similar across both connections, which is to say great! Joystick ----------------------- The joysick itself is loud, the buttons are a little loose and the shell feels hollow. From what I've been reading from various message boards however, that is just how the original joysticks felt so these are likely spot on replicas. Like the NGX, the clicks of the joystick and buttons feel satisfying, there is just the right amount of travel, and overall it feels very responsive. I should also mention that the joystick is USB and works on the PC as well. The only real issue I have with it is that the ball on the joystick (according to the manual) is glued on and cannot be removed. If this is indeed built like the old AES joystick, using similar parts, then there is a good chance that the ball may eventually crack and will be impossible to replace if and when it does. Conclusion ----------------------- Overall I would rate this system a 4 out of 5. The package is a great value, but it is the little things that keep it from receiving a perfect score. With that said, I'd highly recommend this for Neo Geo fans. More casual fans would do better to invest in a more established console and purchasing Neo Geo games via its online shops or game compilation discs instead.

Ich gebe zu, mein Kaufverhalten ist gelinde gesagt merkwürdig. Brauche ich eine Waschmaschine, einen Trockner, neue Autoreifen oder sonstige notwendige Dinge fällt es mir unendlich schwer, meine sauer verdienten Euros locker zu machen. Wenn aber ein Gerät wie das NeoGeoX daherkommt, fällt mir die Entscheidung das Teil anzuschaffen unglaublich leicht. Schlimm!!! Dabei gibt's diverse SNK-Spiele schon für lau in diversen Sammlungen und für fast jede Konsole. Doch ganz so einfach ist es dann doch nicht. Wer wie ich schon in den 90er Jahren gezockt hat, der kam an SNK's Heimkonsole NeoGeo praktisch nicht vorbei. Nicht das dieses Gerät weit verbreitet gewesen wäre. Nein, im Gegentum! Das gute Stück riss gewaltige Löcher in die Geldbeutel von Eltern. Und nur mit Taschengeld die tausend Märker aufzubringen konnte schwer werden. Die Glücklichen, welche gesegnet waren mit reichen Omas oder Sparbüchern für Führerscheine usw. und die das Arcade Ungetüm ihr Eigen nennen durften, standen bald vor dem nächsten Problem. Ein NeoGeo Spiel kostete gerne mal 400 Mark und für Games wie Viewpoint legte ein Freund von mir sage und schreibe 599Eier hin. Doch wer die Konsole hatte, war vor allem eines, eine "coole Sau". Denn man merkte schnell, dass die Menschen eben doch nicht alle gleich sind. Vor allem nicht die mit NeoGeo. Wer es besaß nannte nämlich eine Spielhalle sein Eigen, entsprach doch die Software in den VHS-Kassetten großen Modulen 1:1 dem Spielhallenpendant. Tja und jetzt, über 20 Jahre später und einige Konsolengenerationen weiter kostet ein NeoGeo eintausend und ein King of Fighters gut ein paar hundert Euro. Doch seit Weihnachten 2012 gibt es Abhilfe.Das NeoGeo X. Für knapp 200 Steine kann sich der Interessierte Mann von Welt eine Zeitreise in die 90er auf den heimischen Bildschirm zaubern. Allerdings sollte man ein Fan von 2D Prüglern und seitlich oder vertikal scrollenden Ballerspielen sein. Rollenspieler und Simulationsfans sollten einen großen Bogen um die Konsole machen denn ihre Genres kamen auf Spielautomaten eben nicht vor. Wer sich aber mit puristischem Gameplay und brachialem Knopfgehacke anfreunden kann und gerne mal zu zweit zockt sollte weiterlesen! Wer sich für das NeoGeoX interessiert und sich im allwissenden Internet umsieht liest viele böse Sachen über SNKs neue Daddelkiste. Schlecht verarbeitet und überteuert soll sie sein, die Spiele nur emuliert und so weiter und so fort. Ich habe mir die Kiste zum Geburtstag gekauft und sie für Euch genau unter die Lupe genommen. Hier also mein Eindruck: Wer die Amazonschachtel öffnet und die Box des NeoGeoX Gold in Händen hält, dem fällt gleich einmal positiv auf, dass die SNK Lizensnehmer von Tommo schon mit der Verpackung ein geniales Retro Feeling schaffen. Der Karton sieht den 20 Jahre älteren Brüdern, bis auf die Größe, zum verwechseln ähnlich. Für Sammler eine Augenweide. In der Kiste gibts zwei kleinere Kartons die den Arcade Stick, die Docking Station, das NeoGeoX und alle nötigen Kabel (HDMI, AV, Ladekabel) beherbergen. Käufer der Limited Edition freuen sich darüber hinaus noch über eine Karte mit Blister die auf einer Speicherkarte das Spiel Ninja Master's enthält. Wer sich nicht vorher schlau gemacht hat erlebt jetzt eine Überraschung.Denn das NeoGeo X entpuppt sich als keine Stationäre Konsole, wie vorne auf der Schachtel abgebildet. Es handelt sich um einen Handheld, auf dem man 20 Spieleklassiker vorinstalliert hat. Die Konsole selber ist nichts weiter als eine Docking Station, in die man den Handheld einstecken und die ArcadeSticks anschließen kann. Ein Ladegerät in Konsolenform. Beim Aufbau des ungewöhnlichen Geräteverbunds zeigen sich dann die ersten Mängel. Nicht, dass die Ladestation oder der Handheld selbst schlecht verarbeitet wären, wie so oft behauptet wird. Im direkten Vergleich zum alten original Gerät sind die Unterschiede nicht wirklich auffällig. Gerade die Sticks gleichen den Vorgängern wie ein Ei dem anderen. Nur der Kunststoff ist geringfügig rauer, was aber nicht unbedingt ein Nachteil sein muss. Was man aber sehr kritisieren muss, ist die Verbindung zwischen Handheld und Docking Station. HDMI, Strom und AV Anschluss wollen sich nur sehr, sehr schwer zusammenfügen und es ist absehbar, dass hier irgendwann was kaputt geht. Echt negativ! Wer alles zusammengefriemelt hat und die Konsole aktiviert, den erwartet auf dem Bildschirm ein Karousellmenü ähnlich dem des Kindle, das die vorinstallierten Spiele zeigt. Per AV Anschluss ist das Bild nicht wirklich optimal. Die Farben sind leicht verfälscht und strahlen über Konturen hinaus. Hier darf man sich nicht die Qualität der original Konsole erwarten. Über HDMI sieht die Sache schon anders aus. Gerade wer sich die inzwischen erhältliche Spielesammlung MegaPack1 zulegt kann die Software Updaten, was zu einem deutlichen Fortschritt in Punkto Bildfeinheit führt. Aber auch ohne die neue Software wird die Grafik ohne Tadel dargestellt. Viele verlangen in meinen Augen zuviel, wenn sie erwarten, dass über zwanzig Jahre alte Spiele auf 55 Zoll LCD Geräten noch immer aktuelle Opti bieten. Eine kleinere Bildschirdiagonale macht hier deutlich mehr her. Hat man sich für eines der Games entschieden wird es rucki zucki geladen und ja, es ist wieder da, dieses Automatengefühl der 90er. Ob ein Kult Ballerspielen wie Last Resort oder ein Prügler a la King of Fighters, der Arcade Stick macht seine Sache tadellos. Allerdings macht das Ding einen Lärm, dass man den Sound auf etwas höhere Stufe bringen sollte. Die Mikroschalter Knackern und scheppern, dass es eine Freude ist. :-( Aber beim Original war das nicht wesentlich anders. Die technische Seite des Gerätes, im Bezug auf das was sie tun soll, nämlich die Spiele möglichst nahe am Original abzuspielen, geht vollends in Ordnung. Das Handheld: Das eigentliche NeoGeo X bringt nicht die Spur einer neuen Idee mit. Alles was dran ist kennt man bereits von diversen anderen Hosentaschenspielern. Auch in Punkto Verarbeitung liefert Tommo zwar solide aber im Detail doch etwas billig wirkende Arbeit ab. Das Gerät selbst ist leicht. Sehr leicht! Aber dies als Nachteil zu bezeichnen ist bei einer Konsole für unterwegs nicht angebracht. Der Bildschirm im 16:9 Format zaubert ein scharfes Bild auf die schwarze Plexiglas Oberfläche. Allerdings werden alle Spiele grundsätzlich auf das modernere Format gezerrt, was bei vielen Titeln unschön ist. Mit den Schultertasten kann man aber umschalten. Das Bild wird dadurch halt kleiner. Auch der Steuereinheit des NeoGeoX merkt man SNKs Spielhallennähe deutlich an. Die Jungs von Tommo müssen Mikroschalter lieben, denn auch der Stick des Handhelds klickst und klackst auf Teufel komm raus. Ich persönlich finde das Gerät insgesamt sehr gelungen. Das Design ist schlicht und Schick und vor allem die Rückseite, mit dem verchromten SNK Logo, ist irgendwie Kultig. Alles in allem ist dieses ungewöhnliche Gesamtpaket ein sympathisches Set, dass natürlich seine Ecken und Kanten hat. Aber niemand sollte das NGX als Konkurrenz zu aktuellen Konsolen sehen und es mit diesen vergleichen. Wer sich SNKs neuestes Baby zulegt, will vor allem Eines befriedigen: Die nostalgische Ader Es macht eben immer noch Spass, diese Klassiker zu erleben und für ein paar Stunden wieder 16 zu sein. Zum Preis Leistungsverhältnis kann man geteilter Meinung sein, zumal die US-Version deutlich günstiger ist und man für das Set auch eine X-Box 360 bekommt. Nur, wer hat noch keine 360 und 20 NeoGeoGames, einen Arcade Stick, einen Handheld und eine coole Docking Station für 200 Mücken... ich finde es nicht wirklich überteuert. Gerade für Sammler und RetroFans ist das Bundle eine Offenbarung. Ach ja und wer sich das Teil dann letztendlich zulegt sollte sich unbedingt noch folgendes Überlegen: - Alle Games können zu zweit gezockt werden. Also einen Extra Arcade Stick einplanen! -Der NeoGeoX Mega Pack bietet ein Ladekabel für unterwegs (wurde unverständlicher Weise im BasisPack vergessen), 15 weitere Spielhallenklassiker und ACHTUNG: ein Softwareupdate. Dieses Update verbessert die HDMI Bildqualität und ermöglicht es in Spielen abzuspeichern. Allerdings ist das Spiel Ninja Masters, laut Bildschirmanzeige, nach dem Update nicht mehr spielbar!!! Irgendwie krass...Muss ich jetzt mal prüfen. Fazit: Das NeoGeoX ist kein Mainstream-Teil. Es wird sicher nur eine spezielle Zielgruppe ansprechen. Schlussendlich kommt es darauf an, ob man Bock auf Retro hat. Wer bei Namen wie King of the Monsters und Art of Fighting feuchte Hände bekommt sollte zugreifen! Mir gefällt's! ;-)

Console di ottima fattura, molto ben fatta a vedere la scatola di spedizione mi sono leggermente spaventato. ma al suo interno era tutto protetto e la console completamente nuovo con sigilli ancora intatti. affidabile consiglio vivamente.

Considère comme la rolls des consoles de jeux dans les années '90, cette "ré édition" est des plus intéressante pour les nostalgiques des jeux snk. Un reproche: la faible qualité de l écran de la console.
