Q: is it cd or cartridge?

The system comes with twenty built-in games accessible at boot up. You can then buy game paks to supplement the library further. These cards usually contain three games apiece and resemble SD cards. There is one card, however, that includes all fifteen games that were spread over the other releases. That one is a bit pricier, of course.

Q: What are the dimensions of the retail box?

The box is not small...16 inches x 12 inches something like that, with 4 inches of depth.

Q: Does any other USB controllers work with the docking station? Or only the one provided?

I've tried a couple different Hori sticks with no luck in an addition to an Exar Neo Geo CD pad. All are designed for the PS3. Although the Neo Geo X arcade stick works on the PS3.

Q: Does this play neogeo cartridges, or is the slot just aesthetics?

It is merely aesthetics. It just looks like the vintage console. The Neo Geo X Gold is an entire console on its own. It uses some kind of SD cards. The vintage console is used to play games in the TV - just to give a "retro" feeling of playing games like the old times. :)
