Cute story but not for truly beginning readers
This book/series is not for a truly beginning reader. TheWorld of Reading Star Wars Boxed Set: Level 1 (World of Reading: Level 1) books do a much better job for beginning readers. While there is repetition in this book with words that have the -eam, -ean, and -een sounds she needed help throughout the book time after time. We've had it for a couple of weeks now and she still cannot read it on her own whereas the World of Reading Star Wars book she was able to read 98% of it after one reading from me and could fully read it within 10 days with no help from me.She'll grow into this one and it will be an easy read when she gets to that stage. Both of the books mentioned here have 32 pages but this one has more words on each page which tires out beginning readers. After about eight pages she also grew tired of finding the -eam, -ean, and -een sounds while I read like the book recommends.Splat the Cat is a good series and is fun for beginning readers to listen to / practice reading. It will just take them longer to conquer this book on their own than other brands of level 1 readers.

My 4yo LOVES Splat! But message for parents about reading level
I bought this book for my 4yo as her first Splat the cat book and she now LOVES Splat! Really great book with Splat causing an accidental disaster and hilarious pictures. I do want to say I bought this “Early Reader level 1” think that it’s the same level as “Step into reading 1”. They are NOT! Early reader level 1 is comparable to the Step into reading level 2 or 3 books. Longer paragraphs, complex words to pronounce and words with meanings that I have to explain: Theme and Beam for example. Not a negative thing per se, but I did have to wait about 6 months from purchasing until my daughter was reading more to the level of this book.
