Thank you for your question. This type of pole is for mounting a feeder or house with a plate that gets screwed onto the bottom of the house or feeder. It's not one that you would use for hanging. You would want to try something like a shepherds hook if you want it to be free-standing. We also sell brackets that you can use which can be mounted to a deck rail or wall.

Yes, I have the adapter and it works well. The mounting flange is useless with the adapter and I also only used 2 pole sections so I could reach the feeder for refilling. I wish Erva would offer a shorter, cheaper set here for this purpose.

I don’t know. If so, it’s probably cheaper. It is a nice light weight pole with nice features. Mine is getting rusty where accessories attach. I will be spraying with good black rustproof paint.
