Yes, you can separate the cushion from the sling, but It seems that the waist strap is permanently attached to the cushion, so if you decide to shed the cushion, you're shedding he waist strap as well.

Q: Is this sling machine washable?

Yes, but the cushion is not. I would wash sling portion in cold water and air dry.

Q: Would this fit my 10 year old? I can't find a child one.

I am 5'3" 115lbs and it fit me comfortably. The shoulder strap and waist strap are both adjustable with strong Velcro. The actual sling length maybe to big for you child's arm (elbow to finger tips), but as long as it supports the arm and shoulder that may not be as big of a concern.
