Strap not needed
Edit 11/13/2019 - When I first wrote this review, it was after purchasing the splint, and the strap immediately broke. However, the company saw my review and said they had improved the design to be stronger, and sent me a replacement. They did sent me a replacement, and the strap didn't break immediately, but the thing is... I didn't need it any more. Thing is, my heel spurs are completely gone.I wore the broken, original splint with the strap hanging loose every night for about a month and a half. Very gradually my heel started to get better. The metal bar inside the splint seems to be enough. Unlike the outerdoo splint that I also bought, the bar never broke through the cloth to poke at my leg. Also it was much more comfortable than the big bulky padded splint I also had (can't think of the name, but it is grey and wears like a boot). So I'm not sure the strap is even necessary.Anyway if the strap does break for you, *do not* try using rivets as I did. The cloth just tears around them and now the dangling strap has rivets in it.Original review:The strap that pulls your toes towards your knee broke as I was trying to bend my foot to a 90 degree angle. The fabric that goes around the ball of your foot is very cushiony and has a lot of give so I was using the strap to compensate (its purpose, I assume). But the velcro piece at the end of the strap is just glued on or something and it snapped then I used it to pull. I'm going to try using a rivet or the like to attach it back tomorrow. I still give this 3 stars because even without the strap it is better than the Outerdoo splint I was using earlier, which has less padding and jabs the top of your foot with the metal bar inside.

Uncomfortable, but still an improvement
The splint easily holds my foot in the desired position without being fitted snugly but the edge of the splint where it wraps around my little toe is irritating. I’ve tried repositioning the foam padding but that just seems to move the point of irritation. The edge of the foam pad itself is sharp. To my fingertips it doesn’t feel terrible but to my little toe along the outer edge it feels somewhat irritating after a short while. The discomfort is on the level of a wrinkle in your sock—not so bad at first, but the irritation builds. I am not using the splint for plantar fasciitis. I have a non-healing ankle sprain and need the splint to hold my foot in relative dorsiflexion to avoid strain on the muscles.Overall, the splint is well-constructed and does what I need it to do. I bought it to replace a device I rigged up at home that also feels uncomfortable after a short time in the same spot on my foot. I don’t think my feet are especially sensitive. I hope there is some kind of design modification that would make the splint more comfortable. I think the challenge is primarily in finding a way to distribute the pull of the splint over a wider area of the foot.I am, at times, putting the splint on over a Ked tennis shoe to make it more tolerable. I needed something more sturdy than a house slipper across the ball of my foot but softer than the usual street shoe. The problem with this setup is I need a sock inside this shoe and my feet really prefer being bare. The splint alone is close enough to bare.

Could be better
I bought this after my hard boot for plantar fasciitis failed. I was excited to get something less cumbersome and perhaps easier to walk in for the night-time toilet trips. It's very comfortable and easy to walk in. Two problems:1. The strap that comes down from the ankle to the toe is too long. This strap, along with the metal insert, set the foot angle. Slowly increasing this angle over a period of weeks can really help with the plantar fasciitis. So either the strap needs to be shorter or the velcro on the end needs to be longer. I fixed it in 5 minutes on my spouse's sewing machine. Now I can get my foot pulled back further.2. The velcro on the ankle strap isn't proper velcro. It routinely comes loose. When that happens, you get zero benefit. Again, I fixed this by sewing proper velcro on the ankle strap.I really wanted to give a better review, as I no longer sound and look like Frankenstein when I'm plodding to the bathroom at 1 am. Just a couple of tweaks and it's almost perfect.

1 Month of use review ALMOST 100% HEALED!
After one month of use I have to say this brace is amazing. I have read many reviews about the level of pain that people were going through because of their plantar fasciitis. I would have to say from one to ten mine was somewhere around an eight or nine. When waking up in the morning it literally felt like stepping on the bottom of a broken soda bottle. I was ready to start using a cane in the morning until the tendon start to loosen up. It hurts really bad in the morning when you wake up until it loosens up. Day one through three I wasn’t quite sure if it was doing anything. By day four I was certain it was getting better. By day seven it was at least 25% better. By day 14 it was at least 50% better. And now that we are on day 30, it is almost 90% better. The healing has slowed down a little over the last week but I truly feel over the next 2 to 3 weeks it will be completely healed. I will write another review in 2 to 3 weeks. If you’re like me and you’re starting to really worry if you need to go to the doctor and potentially get surgery, take the gamble try this brace. I thought in my opinion, there was a 90% chance I was going to need surgery based on the pain level. I was wrong, as of right now if it did not get any better I would be completely fine.Update: I forgot to write a full up. My foot was completely back to normal at around 45 day and it had been perfect ever since. I am healed😊.
