All our friends and relatives love these filters. Buster and I wish they would go away.
I'm a bachelor. I live with my dog. We're both old farts set in our ways. We are very lazy. We have very wierd odors, old men odors. Our house smells like you might imagine. These filters have changed our lives. Friends and relatives actually come to visit us now. We are very upset. Damn filters.

WARNING Carbon Particles are loose and could enter furnace burner.
The carbon particles were loose and detaching from the filter. !!! This is of HIGH concern as it was on the exist side of the filter. Approximately 25% of the particles were missing from filter and loose in the package. Installed in furnace this would result in carbon particles directly entering a furnace combustion area - BAD BAD BAD- will potentially DEGRADE and contaminate A FURNACE BURNER. Do not recommend taking the risk regardless of the filtration. Not what I would expect from a Filtrete or 3M filter.

Becomes deformed with use
Other 3M filters that I’ve bought have metal mesh on both sides of the filter. This one has metal mesh only on one side, which contributes to this issue. The filter lost it’s shape and became baggy while installed, to the point that it was hard to take out. It went into a 1-inch slot but came out maybe 2 1/2 inches thick. I had to wrestle it out of the slot and I’m just happy the cardboard frame held up. I bought a 2-pack. The picture shows the second (still new) filter in the back (still showing the accordion shape that is common for these filters), and the one that I took out after 3 months of use in fairly moderate conditions. It looks like a deflated balloon. I replaced it with a traditional 3M 1200 that I know will not become deformed with use.

Counterfeit product
I must have received a fake product. The filter looks like nothing in the picture. The charcoal was loosely sprinkled on the filter, much of it was falling off. There is no 3M product label. I have other 3M filters, and the construction of this one is clearly inferior. Not worth 32$ for two filters

Not individually wrapped.
Not individually wrapped which makes the charcoal feature worthless. Any activated charcoal product needs to be individually wrapped to be effective as it degrades when exposed to air. Useless at this quantity unless you are changing 6 filters at once. And of course they arrive smashed by UPS but isn't that normal?

Almost cost me a new Furnace
I cannot say I did not like the filter, but it is very restrictive. I started having issues with my furnace after installing these filters. A week ago my furnace would randomly turn off and do a reset. I changed out the thermostat thinking it had an issue. It did not fix it. A couple of days ago the furnace turned off and would not come back one. I was at work so my wife called Air Comfort Solutions (in OKC) for them to try and get it running. The told me that my furnace needed to be replaced and it would cost a little over $4,000 with labor. After they left I started tinkering and ended up getting it working. Turns out this filter was not allowing enough airflow and after a few months the strain was just too much.Putting in a different filter and doing a full reset is how I solved the problem.I would say make sure your system can handle how restrictive this filter is before using it. This could end up being a VERY expensive filter in the long run.

BEST FILTER AROUND
I was told my the maintenance guy at my apt. complex with whom I'm friends that if you can see through your filter, it's crap. This conversation came about after noticing how often I was dusting my place and then looking around one day when the sun was shining in through the glass door, and my son and couldn't believe all the dust flying around in the air. When I took out the filters the complex supplied, I could literally see my son's face. I went up to Home Depot and found this. Looked through and saw nothing. Within a month, there was almost no dust on the table. It was believable. After 3 months, I accidentally bought the wrong 3M filter here on Amazon. I decided to try it. Ugh. Not good. The dust came right back. I immediately found these and gave those ones to my neighbor (at least they're better than the ones the complex gives us). These filters are wonderful, the amount of dust that they block truly is astounding, and I can't believe how long I've been breathing that in. Disgusting.

Restricted airflow coming out of the vents.
These would probably be good for a house, but in my apartment it severely limited the airflow in my AC unit. They worked great on smells, but we put these in during the summer and there would be barely any air coming out of the vents in the living room. We thought that there was something wrong with the AC until I realized that every time my husband opened the door with the filter, I could feel the cold air coming through the vents again.

A Solid 4 Star Filter For Wildfire Smoke
This is a good, solid filter. I have used these before. I do not give them 5 stars because this is advertised as an allergen filter but 3M Filtrete makes better filters for allergies and asthma that remove more particulates from the air. Unfortunately, this is the only filter that 3M makes that includes active carbon that helps to remove wildfire smoke from the air. When new, it does a MUCH better job cleaning smokey air in our house than a Filtrete MPR 1900 or 2200. However, it doesn't do as good a job with other particulates like pet dander. Don't ask me why - I am simply going by what our eyes and lungs tell us. My wife's eyes and my lungs do much better/don't burn at all with the carbon filters in the furnaces when the wildfire smoke blows in. We just set the fans/blowers in our two furnaces to 'Summer' mode and they run 24/7 when the smoke is bad; it continuously filters the air and keeps the inside of our house clean and odour-free.However, when the smoke clears out, I have to switch back to the Filtrete 2200 filters to clean the air of pet dander and pollen, something the Filtrete Charcoal 1200 cannot do a great job of.I wish 3M would make a charcoal or carbon filter with a higher MPR or MERV rating so it would collect other ultrafine particulates in addition to forest fire smoke so we weren't switching filters back and forth but that is me just being lazy I guess. They obviously have their reasons for making this middle-of-the-road charcoal filter but I hope they make a better, do-it-all version considering the more regular summer wildfires on the west side of North America each year.I hope this has been helpful!

Do a lot of cooking that smells? This is the one you need.
Perfect for the south asian families that cook a lot of delicious smelly foods. Stove exhausts and air purifiers did nothing until we started using these filters for our HVAC. The fan would have to run for the entire day to get rid of the smell but does the job.

They work...reduces the odours from pets and cooking effectively.
I've been using Filtrete filters on my furnace for years, especially in allergy season. But with a house full of dogs and some adventurous cooking techniques, the house picks up a certain odour over the course of the winter when the windows are closed and air is exchanged only infrequently with outside. Activated charcoal is great for absorbing odours, so this filter makes sense fro a scientific view, but does it work? I placed the filter in my furnace, and within two days noticed a change in the smell of the air. It's a subtle effect at first, but as the time went by I began to notice walking into my house from outside meant no assault with dog or food smells like before! I have yet to find out how long these filters will last in a busy house, but I've now started using these Odour Reduction filters in place of the normal Filtretes in the closed-house months.

3M gets 5-stars
Work excellent. I had a mildew problem in my house after a small flood. When fans and portable air purifiers didn't rid the odor problem I used these 3M filters. In 3 days my basement had noticeable improved in smell and in 6 days the odor was eliminated. I also can attest that they are wonderful dust collectors as upon replacement you will see all the contaminants you were saved from breathing in. Good product from a good company.

Merci.Roger
