The best meat substitute around
For whatever reason, I cant find this in my local grocery store anymore, but was super relieved to find it here and at a good price! I’m not a vegetarian/vegan but my wife is. Over the years I have tried many meat substitutes and in my opinion, this is the best one. It crumbles nicely, absorbs liquid and seasonings and the texture is great. I ACTUALLY prefer it to grocery store ground beef. I have made tacos, meatballs, meat sauces and even won a chili cookoff using this instead of beef in my original chili recipe. Yes it smells a little different as it is cooking, but that seems to be the experience across the board with plant based meat substitutes. The smell dissapates and the meat takes on the flavor or whatever you season it with. It cooks just about as fast as ground beef, it browns up nicely and i feel better knowing that im not clogging my arteries or eating pink slime. If you are not a vegetarian and are missing that super beefy taste, a trick i have learned is that you can add a cup or two of beef bone broth to the meat after you brown it and let it soak it up and then it is nearly indistinguishable from ground beef in terms of flavor. Love this stuff.

Good in ramen
Was good, microwaved with ramen. I microwaved it in one inch cubes (or as near to cubes as you can get with it's initial consistency being like mashed potatoes), along with ramen (no seasoning packet), and fresh green pepper strips. Came out well, despite their warning not to microwave it. I used 8 oz, half the package. Some of the brown color transferred to the water, but that's OK. It seemed to season it, too, so no spices or salt was needed. The "meat" changed texture to be more like cooked ground beef (hamburger). The price may even be lower than actual hamburger. Some negatives: The package doesn't seem to be resealable, so I transferred the rest into another container and froze it. I also had "loose stool" after, but I'd have that from eating so much in the pulse family (beans, peas) in any form. If it's a problem for you, either eat less, or eat it with something that has the opposite effect, like cheese.

Love this meat substitute
Wonderful mild flavor. Texture is outstanding, much better than beef. Highly recommend, worth every penny.

In regards the "dog food" reviews.
Yes. this product seems to effect some small % of people (including myself). If you are thinking of trying this don't worry about the bad reviews.. just try it for yourself. (my review) Oh my god.. when i first smelled it it was very unpleasant. It smelled like I just opened a can of cat/spam food. I couldn't get over that smell.. it stayed with me as I cooked... but I am a brave guy. I eat anything and just don't get grossed out. First day: Cook a burger patty. Everytime I took a bite an extremely unpleasant odor enters first and let me tell you... I wish I can explain it. It's just really off putting. Again, I am a brave guy.. don't care. I continue eating 1 very unpleasant bite after another. Ok. So I am done with the burger... now I have this very unpleasant aftertaste in my mouth the entire night. It was awful... really, really awful (my constant burping did not help.) Day 2: I am going to do this again differently. Open the bag (that awful weird smell hits me first) Oh my god. it is so awful because it is nothing like I have experienced before... ok. So this time I have indian spices... My goal is to kill the aftertaste. I added enough curry to kill an indian bengal tiger.... sadly, that aftertaste is right there. No day 3. I threw it in the garbage. I am not that brave. In conclusion. I think this effects a small % (from the reviews it seems like around 5%) of people that eat it experience the cat/dog food sensation. The rest of the population don't seem affected. it's a shame because the texture was in my opinion perfect and I am leaving a 5 star review because I wish them all the best. Don't listen to anyone.. try it for yourself.

It’s a good substitute.
I appreciate this company’s effort to provide meat alternatives, and the quality has been improved with the use of avocado oil. Makes it healthier, but it would be better if they offered a product with less ingredients and/or made organic. With that being said, whenever I was to make the dishes I loved involving ground beef, this Beyond Meat product is my go to. Closest thing out there.
