"Grass and Flower" lake shore scene Chinese Scholar's Stone

This stone with its large mineral intrusions suggests to us a Chinese stylized painting of a lake side scene.In China these stones are called "Grass & Flower Stones" but we'd call them "landscape stones" or "painting stones". This is a natural stone formation millions of years old that has been shaped by exposure to wind and water. It is from Liuzhou County, Quanxi Autonomous Minority Region in Southern China. Stones like this one have collected and displayed for hundreds of years and they are highly sought after in China where they are said to balance the Feng Shui and assure the balance of nature in their surroundings. They are called "Scholar's Stones" since stones like this one could be found on a scholar's or an officials desk and they are an aid to deep meditation as you relax and observe the world shown in the stone.
