Q: does it rust if in contact with sea water?

I have not tested this with sea water. It does not respond in fresh water.

Q: Is the black just painted on the chain where it will flake off after awhile or is the chain itself black so it won't flake off??

It appears its painted on... but with a good paint I am not easy on neck chains, I really like this one.
