One bad orange pinpointer from garrett
It's way better then the older one and it came on time and had no problem with this person selling me it . And more important is that it's the real deal not a fake !! The only thing u have to get use to from the older one is the on and off button when u shut it off . Turning it on is the same press button and u have it up and running now shut it off hold the button for 2 seconds I'll say just about two seconds. that is what u have to get use too other then that it's much much more better I'll say one of they best pinpointer out there the turning off switch u will get use too it I have the older one and when u use the old one and then after u use the new one u just have to rember too hold for two seconds to turn off that was my only thing that I had to learn and the settings are very easy u will learn it on the field in a full day or two .. And once u use this and u go back to the old one u will never want to use the old one cause it's way way more out dated to this one trust me and the old one has that fault reading and I took mine apart and re did the wires with srink tube and it's better but some times I had to touch the ground with it and turn it on to make it work better .. The new one turn it on and go to town with it no faulty hits and what I love about it is if u don't want pepole next to u no what u are doing is shut off the volume and leave it on vibrate only and u have a extry setting where u gain a extry inch or a less inch or so from the old one and I love the part where it is water proof and the color I love too ... My old one I used it right out of the box and I used it for two years and I saw the plastic tip whereing off from sand what I did that I would tell anyone that will buy one and wants it to last many years that I haven't seen any one do or on Youtube is go to homedepoit near u and go to where they sale shrink tube for car battery and u will see that thay sale heavy duty shrink tube for wires underground or under water it's not your every day shrink tube it's a very think shrink tube and it's the perfect size to slide on too and then u get a heat gun and shrink it take your time do heat it up that u want to met it what I did was take the battery out and got a rag and wet it down so when I was done I put the rag on the tip of the pinpointer to cool it down and I took like a butter knife and use the back end of it and press on the scrapping blade of the pinpointer as I heat it up to make the shrink tube go nice and tight on it without so much heat to it and I left about one inch of the shrink tube sticking out the end of it and I had mine go right up next to the led light and this shrink tube once it's heated to shrink on to the pinpointer it get very very hard shrink tube I mean I've Ben using this shrink tube on my pinpointer and man this thing is like plastic hard shrink tube I mean strong strong and now my pinpointer won't get all scratch up or worn out on the tip ! But ya I picked up that shrink tube at homedepoit and it's called heavy duty shrink tube for wires that are under ground heavy duty thick wire that two off the wire are meeting up together and u shrink this on too it it's about 6 inches long and about a quarter size hole and it cost something like 4 or 5 bucks but it is the best shink tube that I ever seen and I Ben working with cars for 18 years painting cars for 18 years and back in the days I use to do car stereo all the wires thick wires with powerfull amps I mean I have a s4 audi and I crack my front windshield twice from the base .. I use shrink tube plenty of it but this shrink tube is very strong and thicker and it won't slide of or wear off . I hope this Long ass review help anyone I would for shore buy the new pinpointer and shrink tube and it will last a while as long as u take care if it and don't use to pry rocks with it !!

Excellent
This garrett carrot pin pointer works great. Easy to turn on and off and the on off button doesn't get pressed while in the holster (an issue I had with the cheap Chinese one I had before I lost it). Also, this one has 3 sensitivity settings as well as a few sound/vibration settings. (Sound, sound and vibration, or vibration only). Both the sound and vibration are an excellent volume and strength. The vibration intensifies the closer you are to the object (pretty standard and expected). The unit is durable and the battery in the compartment is sealed tight against sand and salt water. This is a must for beach hunting, or any hunting.

Don't care for the one button operation, but otherwise great. Don't use knock-off batteries.
Update: I apparently had a bad pack of off-brand 9v batteries. Switching to another new Kodak battery seems to have solved the problem. Strange that my battery tester says nearly full strength on the old "off-brand" battery. I got suspicious when I realized the problem only occurred after about an hour of use. Must be that the generic brand battery was able to hold voltage on the tester but not the pointer. Anyway another new brand name battery seems to have fixed the problem for now. I still don't care for the one button operation, but this pointer is terrific otherwise. I just hope the battery was the reason for my issues. Don't buy knock-off batteries!Original Review:This was a great pinpointer until it began to act up big time 6 months later. There is a lost detector mode that kicks in after 5 minutes of no operation while powered on, i.e. the one button is not pressed or there is nothing detected for 5 min.Once my detector goes into this mode I cannot cancel it.You are supposed to just press the one button to reset. It doesn't work for me. If I hold the button for 1/2 sec it powers off as it is supposed to.When I turn it back on, it still beeps repeatedly as if still in lost detector mode, because it is still somehow in that mode. Never did that until recently.t an hour of use even though I turned off the pin-pointer each time I put it in my pocket.I checked the battery and it is full strength. Just to be sure I switched to a brand new battery. Same thing.happens.In fact, taking the battery out after turning the unit off then putting it back and turning it on again. Still in lost detector mode.I've been careful to turn the unit off, so that it won't go into lost detector mode. If goes into lost detector mode after turning it back on...sometimes...but always after a period of use. It's very frustrating.I don't care for the single button for everything, on and off, ground recalibration, sensitivity settings., all done by different time lengths of pressing that one button. These are hard to remember sometimes are hard to time. Turning the unit off is a short 1/2 sec press. A 1/2 sec is hard to judge. A 1/2 longer and it won't shut off. Just give me an on/off switch, please.
