Abus Numero 1300 Combo Cable Bicycle Lock (8mm)

Sturdy, easy, and not too big or bulky. The wife and I took up riding this past spring. We fixed up our old bikes and started riding. Once we got to the point where we could get places like local malls, coffee shops, etc we decided it was time to get locks.Setting the key is easy (don't throw away that little metal bit that comes with it until AT LEAST after setting your code). I do wonder if they use a universal one which means that if these were common enough if someone could run off with our bikes. Of course mine is a 30 year old Huffy in okay shape. If someone wants the bike badly enough, I can live without it until I can replace it with something more modern. But if I had a $1000+ bike, I may look at something else. But for something that sat in a garage for 10 years and only required a $40 tuneup to get road worthy again, I'm fine with this.It goes around one of the bars just fine. And is easy to use. If you are fine with a low key lock this is good enough for most people. In the end, if someone really wants your bike there's probably no stopping them. So this works fine for me.

Followed the direction perfectly, set the code, and the dang thing won't unlock. Can't get it open which means it's toast. The best part is I waited a few months to even try and use it, and now I'm out of the return window. Complete waste of money.

Using as a temporary lock on my bike carrier or when running into a store to deter theft. Fundamental word is DETER. Like any cable lock, it can be cut quickly with a bolt cutter. Used for this purpose, it is easy to use, withstands the elements, and fits into my seat post bag easily. Good product.

This lock is just for a coffee while your bike is in sight. Although the strength of the cable is evident, I get the impression that the plastic head will break just with a little bump by accident (looks so fragile) some day. I like it but I would never leave my bike just with this lock.

This is a really small lock, even for a cable lock. Great price though, and would work stuff less pricey than a bike. For my bike, I got a Kryptonite u-lock instead.

I use this lock as a secondary lock to tie down my seat and back tire. It works well as it can be pulled through the seat bracket (and probably most other removable accessories) and allows me to secure those to the rest of the bike and the locking post. Again, this is not a primary lock that will alone prevent someone from taking the bike. It works well as a way to secure other items and make it less appealing to an opportunistic thief. I use heavy duty ulock for the actual bike frame.

This lock has only one purpose and it failed. My son has his new inexpensive bike chained up to a bike rack through the frame and wheel and when he came out of the Univ. of Pittsburgh library the bike was gone. I thought that I would not need a Kryptonite U-lock for an inexpensive bike but I guess I was wrong. I am spending the extra money on the Kryptonite the next time.

This lock is a seriously awesome lock. I have never bought a lock before but this brought some pretty high standards along with it. I have yet to have anyone attempt to cut into it, however I have no doubt that it would take someone a while to cut through it. The cable stays firmly wrapped as shown in the picture.Creating a combination is a piece of cake. It comes with a little silver metal wedge that you can push into the holes of the open lock, then you just move the numbers where you wish to put them while keeping the wedge in place. Release the wedge when you have everything where you want it and try it out. Everything seems pretty sturdy and well built so I doubt that it would do something it isn't designed to do, such as having a different combination than the user intends it to have.I do however with the lock was reflective. That way you could wrap it around the bike seat as another reflector.

This cable lock was delivered within the time scale but without an instruction sheet and key to set the code hence 4 not 5 star's. I went on utube to find out how to set the code and managed to do it without the key. I use ABUS products for my motorcycle so I had no doubt which make I should buy for my cycle. I am pleased with the product so far but as with all these coiled cable locks care must be taken when locking up your bike as they can try to recoil very quickly if both ends are not held securely. I would recommend this lock.

Abusとしては比較的扱いやすいタイプのロックです。4桁の番号は好みで任意に設定できます。ワイヤーは直径を小さく巻いていくことができ、ツールボトルにらせん状に収めることができました。セーフティーレベルは社内基準で4だそうで、実際に手に取った感じでは結構太くずっしりしたものです。普通のニッパー程度では切れないと思います。ただし窃盗目的でキョーレツなポルトクリッパーでも使われたらそれはすぐ切られると思います。ロード用に買ったのですが、常に車載するには300gと結構重い。ほとんど離れないのならクロップスでもいいかな。逆にプロに狙われたらすぐ切られそう、ということでモノとしての良し悪しや価格は別としても、実際の使用シーンがあまり考えられず私の中では中途半端な位置づけとなりました。最後になりますが、プッシュボタンのように見える部分はただの「塗装」です。デザイン上の理由で高級に見せたいようですが、まったく無意味です。
