Great bread knife for professional kitchen work
I've been a cook for 10+ years, and I've worked in a wide variety of kitchens serving an equally wide variety of foods. Pros: -Relatively inexpensive: Serrated knives are great for a wide variety of jobs, but difficult to sharpen. Instead of worrying about sharpening an expensive serrated knife, I prefer to just buy an inexpensive one, use it until it's toast, then throw it away. -Relatively well-made: Pure Komachi's are much nicer and build and material quality than other cheap knives I've used (Dexter, Mundial, etc). The handle is plastic, it's partial tang, all of which would probably be knocks against it in the professional cook world, but the overall quality exceeds what I would expect from this price point. The plastic doesn't feel overly cheap, and the included sheath has never given me any problems. My current knife has remained sharp for well over a year of daily, high volume use, which indicates to me that it's made of good quality steel. -Very smart design: The way the serration "teeth" change direction halfway through the blade is a really cool design choice. I honestly can't tell you if it makes any real difference in it's cutting ability, but it probably doesn't hurt. The thin blade profile makes it very agile in the hand, and the bright orange paint job makes it very easy to find when you're busy. The included sheath has wide slats cut into it, which allows the blade to dry off if it happens to be a little wet when you put it away, which helps prevent rust spots. The sheath uses friction from a plastic clip to stay attached to the knife, and I've never had any issues with it, though I imagine it'd be fairly useless if that clip were to break. Cons: -Goofy looking as hell- It's definitely bright orange and looks like an Ikea knife. I've had more than a few coworkers mention that it looks like a toy, but then they use it and end up buying one for themselves. Aesthetics aren't everything. -BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN YOU'RE PUTTING THE KNIFE BACK IN THE SHEATH- seriously, the opening for the sheath is very small and if you're putting it away in a hurry you run the risk of missing the opening and cutting yourself pretty badly. This isn't really a design flaw, more like an opportunity for user error. Overall, this is a great knife. I bought several other Pure Komachi knives (nikiri and chefs) for my parents, and I don't like them anywhere as much as I like their bread knife. I generally get about two and a half years of heavy, commercial kitchen use out of these before they get dull enough for me to want to get a new one, and once my current knife dies, I'll buy another one. Home cooks will probably never have to replace this once they buy one.

Great knife
Had a set of Pure Komachi knives from Costco and have damaged a few over the years. They are cheaper to replace than take to a professional sharpener. This knife is great - cuts bread easily. Wife also loves it for softly cooked meats. Serrated blade comes sharp and stays sharp. Easy to clean and comes with a nice sheath. Very happy with this!

Great bread knife, bought a second one
Slices bread very cleanly, sharp and lightweight. You have to be careful with the cover, as with all knives, but the cover makes it very convenient to toss in a bag or drawer. I liked it so much I bought a second one for my workplace.

Not crazy about the color, but you can't beat the quality for the price!
I bake my own bread and read a lot of reviews of knives before deciding to try this knife. I was almost ready to get a Victorinox bread knife that cost four times the prices of this one. I am SO glad I gave the Pure Komachi knife a chance. Its serrated edge is deeply-toothed and the scallops are very sharp. The blade is also quite thin. Both of these combine to make an excellent knife for cutting homemade bread. I can't believe the quality you get for the low price. This knife also worked well for slicing tomatoes and cooked meats. I know they're stamped blades and not drop forged like high end knives, but for this price?? I baby this knife, handwashing it and drying it off before putting it back on my magnetic knife rack. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is, I just wish it were 10" long or that they offered a 10" bread knife. Still, it's terrific and I highly recommend it!

DON'T LET THE FUN COLOR MISLEAD YOU -- KNIFE STAYS SERIOUSLY SHARP, even after 5 years!!
This knife has stayed very sharp after almost 5 years of frequent use and is highly recommended!! This knife slices through all types of bread quite easily, even dense, crusty bread from the farmer's market. The handle is quite comfortable. While this does not have the heft of a traditional knife, it does not feel flimsy and the handle is very comfortable. And it's so easy to clean; just put in the dishwasher (although the manufacturer recommends hand washing). I had initially purchased this (and a nearly completely set of these Pure Komachi knives) to keep my husband away from my "good" knives when he was making sandwiches, etc, and because I wanted inexpensive knives that I wouldn't feel guilty about running through the dishwasher -- but it turns out that I like "his" knives so much, I use them, too! When these knives first arrived, my husband called them "kiddie knives," because of the pretty colors, but be careful, because these are very sharp -- early on, I cut myself badly enough with the purple sandwich knife so that a Band-aid was inadequate and I needed Steristrips. My advice is to treat this knife as you would any super-sharp knife, because it is just as sharp as my professional quality-knives, even if it comes in a fun color and is not too expensive. Highly recommended!!

It is able to do what it does but the sheath is not really necessary I have used another Japanese style bread knife which seems sharper But for the price I cannot complain

This knife is an absolute steal. I've had it for about a year now and I have nothing but good things to say about it. I have some pretty expensive knives which were around $200 each, but this knife gets heavy use in my rotation. When it comes to bread knives, it is difficult getting them sharpened, and is often not worth the trouble of doing so. I'd recommend you get a cheap, but capable bread knife like this one and use it until it starts to dull then replace it with a new one. This knife performs admirably when cutting bread (duh) but also does a great job with more delicate jobs like when slicing tomato thinly. I use this knife almost exclusively for those two jobs and it hasn't let me down yet. Will be buying another when this one gets too dull.
