An assassin caught between the KGB and the CIA plays the two against each other in an attempt to reclaim her life in ANNA; a sophisticated and satisfying action-thriller written and directed by Luc Besson. ANNA POLIATOVA (Sasha Luss) is discovered by a modeling scout while selling tchotchkes at a craft market and is whisked off to Paris where she becomes an instant sensation in the fashion world. But behind her exquisite exterior, Anna has a deadly secret - she is a KGB-trained assassin. Recruited after her abusive, thieving boyfriend is killed by agent ALEXEI TCHENKOV (Luke Evans), she was given a choice: spend five years as a Soviet operative or join her late lover.Using her striking looks to gain access to her targets, Anna becomes a top asset for her handler, OLGA (Helen Mirren), but as the end of her five-year agreement comes closer, she learns the KGB has no intention of honoring it. When CIA agent LENNY MILLER (Cillian Murphy) tries to force her to work as a double agent, Anna hatches a plan that could free her from both - or get her killed. Knowing that each of her contacts is prepared to betray her, setting the two against each other will require every bit of her brains, her sex appeal and her assassin’s skills to succeed. Startling plot twists, breath-taking action and unexpected double crosses propel a smart, stylish espionage thriller set in the glittering world of high fashion.

Classic and thoroughly enjoyable.
Simply the best in the genre (alongside Atomic Blonde of course!) Really good action movie, and brilliant acting by the much underrated Sasha Luss, and the inimitable Helen Mirren.

Good on so many levels.
Great movie. Good but not faultless story and acting. Really pretty girl. My advice - watch the movie and enjoy but whatever you do, do not argue with Anna unless you have a death wish - lol.

Not really original, but very watchable
Although this is a narrative that's not entirely original - it's even reminiscent of Besson's own Nikita and Lucy - I've given it five stars because of its style, fast pace and the disjointed timeline, which allows the audience to make sense of key scenes at different times from different points of view. Sasha Luss (Anna) is perfectly cast and, along with her stunt double, is in one of the most memorably choreographed fight scenes ever. Cillian Murphy plays the stylish, smooth CIA agent Lenny and, in brawny contrast, Luke Evans plays KGB agent Alex. Now, it's no surprise all these gorgeous characters fall for one other, but only as far as their purposes will allow, Anna's to escape a miserable existence. They're all dishonest, and have to be in their line of work, so they're admirable in their commitment, but very hard to like. I like the fact that the ending is not cheesy (no spoiler!).

Excellent- reminiscent of the classic, 'Nikita.'
Luss puts in an excellent performance as a young woman in poverty with a loser boyfriend. He attempts a street robbery that goes badly wrong and she ends up being enlisted by the KGB as her dad was a high ranking officer in the navy which she had recently applied to join. She is then trained to be a spy and a deadly assassin. Just like, 'Nikita' as well she is set up on her first mission as a test of her abilities. Decent support from Evans, Murphy and Mirren make this a very entertaining film. Stylish, artistic and clever are the hallmarks of the many classic Besson films of the past such as 'The Big Blue', 'Nikita' and 'Leon' all of which, including this one, I would highly recommend.
