Drive Genius 3 for Mac, Hard Drive Maintenance Utility, Speed Up, Clean Up and Protect your Mac, used by Apple

I own a two year old Mac Lion OSX, ended up upgrading the operating system to OSX Mavericks and then it began to slow down, way down. The spinning beach ball began to appear more frequently and I began to have many forced quits in the middle of important projects. I read about the Drive Genius 3 on Amazon. I read all the reviews about how well this product worked but more importantly about how awesome the tech support was. Boy were they right on! I purchased this product wishing and hoping to restore my Mac back to it's warp speed and I was not disappointed! Even though I was not tech savvy enough to get this product up and running by myself, I still highly recommend it's purchase! Reggie from Tech Support was clam, kool and collected! He guided me through every step of the install with patience, understanding and expertise! It had turned out that my Mac Lion had 60% hard drive fragmentation and the Drive Genius 3 resolved all of my hard drive issues. It is now running like it did two years ago, when I took it out of the box. I couldn't be more pleased with both this product and their amazing tech support staff! I highly recommend the purchase of this product if you too are having issues with your Macintosh slowing down, crashing or the sudden appearance of that damn spinning beach ball!A big, giant thank you to Reggie for all of your help! I'm new to apple, bought an macbook air in 2012. I was experiencing the never-ending spinning beach ball that I think was caused by a video conversion software I downloaded and trying to move large video files. The mac utilities didn't do much, I decided to get this since, as advertised, the folks at the genius bar use it to tune macs. But for newer macs, it's not plug and play, I contacted prosoft support and promptly got this reply:"What year is your Mac Book Air? All mac's that are manufactured from 2011 to the present will not boot from the disk (DVD) because apple stop support Disk Development Kit allowing these macs to start up using DVD or CD. Only macs from 2010 and below will boot to the dvd/cd since these macs has Disk Development Kit included. What I can recommend is to create a secondary start up disk to run repair. How to create a secondary start up disk: [...] Note: The instruction is for Lion but will also work and apply for 10.8 and 10.9"I'm booting the software from an external hard drive for my newer mac and it did fix most problems and the mac ran better. Since then, I've downloaded OS Mavericks from itunes and that seems to have made my mac run like new.

There are three reasons that I purchased Drive Genius 3. One: The price from Amazon was great. And with free shipping (two day delivery with Prime) I was able to have the disk. Two: My previous utility TechTool Pro was always causing issues with my HardDrive and Backup Drive. Three: The user interface is simple and the level of protection and utility is up to the user. I have used Drive Genius 3 for about 3 or so months. My favorite feature is DrivePulse. It places a small icon on the tool bar and a click shows the general status of your drive. I have also used DiskWarrior in the past and find Drive Genius 3 to be a friendly utility. By that I mean that I do not have to read a 100 page manual to understand how to efficiently use the program. And keep in mind, this is what they use in most cases at the apple store to check drives initially.

I used this almost weekly in 2012 for my very old mac computer. It kept it going. Finally my computer drive went belly up and died forever.All the contents of my new 27 in iMac came form the backup disk, everything. I think a few spinning bugs came along as well. So I wanted to run the programs. I waited a long long time for it to boot from the DVD. Holding the mouse key down did not kick out the DVD. Then I went to their site and found out how to do it.If you get a new iMac, which I did, and upgrade to Maverick, which I did - you will need to go to their website and download a very large file and burn it onto a disk so you can use it. Have not done downloaded it yet, was too tried yesterday.

I do not know much about computers, and I cannot explain in technical details how this software works, but it did fix many of the issues my computer had. I have an old iMac with dual intel processor (if that matters), and I has having issues with the screen freezing, slowing down, and not rebooting properly. So, after running this program I could see a great difference in its performance. There are some stuff I do not even know what they are for, so I am not going to use them, but Repair, DriveSlim, Integrity Check and Defrag really helped a lot. Why did I get this software? Because I was going to take it to Mac Geniuses to get repaired, but someone who works at Mac told me they use the tools in this software to do the actual diagnostics and fixing most of the software problems, so I took his word for it, and I bought it. Saved me money! Again, I do not know much about computers, all I can tell you is that this software worked for me.

My biggest problem with this app is the ridiculous interface. It's a huge waste of space that is used for dumb graphics instead of supplying detailed explanations of functionality and additional controls. The silly GUI makes the app less user-friendly and makes it take longer to get to what you are looking for.The functions provided can be useful, but sections of the app like DriveSlim are un-useable because of a lack of information about exactly what the program is going to do with your files. I'd be afraid to run it on anything important.Lastly, a lot of these utility apps need to join the 21st century and bring their pricing down. The days of overpriced boxed apps are over, especially if your app is not a stellar piece of craftsmanship. Spending $70 for an app with this limited appeal is too much to ask. If you want to charge that much -- make this a full blown utility and offer the rich, detailed functionality of Cocktail, OnyX, Carbon Copy Cloner, CleanMyMac, etc. under one roof.

I bought this mainly for the DrivePulse feature that during idle time, automatically checks the physical sectors of your drives for errors. It has alerted me to two drives that had bad sectors (confirmed with TechTool) just inside of warranty periods so has saved my data, and money. And it was cheaper to buy this boxed product on Amazon than a digital download direct from ProSoft!It has many, many other features in the suite from defragmentation, to volume index checking and rebuilding, to partitioning and formatting. I've not used too many of them, but its got a clean interface and is easy to use.\For what it has done for me, I can't recommend it highly enough.

Didn't work despite hours of trying, following 'help' instructions to the letter and both computer oriented children also trying unsuccessfully. Waste of money.

cumbersome to use with Mavericks. Needs another drive. Primarily was bought for de-fragmentation.Would go for another product if I had know that you needed another boot with Mavericks. Worked fine with Lion.
