It seems to work very well on first uses
Bought this for my sister who lives out of state. She was quite happy to receive a nice pencil sharpener. She was impressed by the first cut and resulting tip on a Dixon Ticonderoga pencil. Hopefully it will cut just as nice with some Derwent Inktense colored pencils that she also got. The unit is designed to come apart. The crankshaft and cutting unit just need a twist and pull and it will come out. This is a good thing as it will help if you need to clean it out or see if a tip is broken off in the cutter. I see people's reviews complaining how the unit was in two parts when it arrived and it "looks" (I could be wrong here) to me like they just didn't know that they can just push the cutting unit back in and twist and lock it back into place and its fine again. Anyway there is also a button that is supposed to removed broken tips. (Broken tips are going to happen, esp if you have cheaper colored pencils and even more so if you drop the pencils and break the lead inside the pencil without even realizing it). The recipient was happy to get this and see it work well, which makes me happy. Learn how it is supposed to work, it can take a second. I believe you can only sharpen the pencil cranking in a clockwise direction. It should "auto" stop when the pencil is sharp too, and it did for the tests that I saw.

Like it a lot.
Works so well. Really smooth cutting action. Not sure how long it will last in my classroom but the kids like using it so much that they are careful with it. Takes some coordination to insert the pencil into the clamps and extend the holder without it snapping back. Definitely a right handed product.

Best Sharpener Ever
I can't go back to another sharpener after getting this. It sharpens pencils to a long point, doesn't over-sharpen, never breaks the lead, and the tips are always perfectly smooth. The 9852EW in combination with this are so good I may never go back to mechanical pencils again. The design is also charming and stylish. It did chew up a soft Crayola colored pencil and would've kept sharpening it to a nub. So this product is best for regular writing pencils. This is the ONLY manual sharpener I've ever used that never breaks the lead. I don't bother using those sharpeners that fit in a bag or pocket anymore. I just bring sharp pencils, and since they are 9852EW they always last until I'm back home. Just try this sharpener and a box of Mitsubishi pencils. They will sharpen so smoothly, last so long, and write so well that you won't want a mechanical pencil again.

My new favorite pencil sharpener!
This is a great colored pencil sharpener! It's very well made. The shavings bin on the bottom is twice as deep as my other helical type sharpener which means fewer trips to the waste basket. The "rabbit ear" style pinchers on the top front which hold the pencil in place during sharpening work easily. You poke the pencil into the hole while pinching those sticky-uppy parts and pull the front out until it grasps the pencil firmly. You let go, hold the sharpener with your left hand and crank the crank with your right hand, gently. Pencils with hard wood casings might be harder to sharpen but this sharpener can handle it. The button to get a sharp point or a rounded point works just fine, in for rounded point, out for sharp point. And I do love that long long point. I thought I'd be breaking a lot of tips, but if I'm coloring gently as I should for layering, that point lasts! And the accuracy of a fine sharp point is SO satisfying! When the front of the sharpener is out, the shavings bin is not open at the top where there might be a danger of shavings falling out, it is covered . This, in my opinion, makes this sharpener just a little above my other favorite sharpener. My Dahle 133 will give me very good performance every day for about 4 years, and a nice sharp regular length point. This sharpener is bigger--a real handful--and gives a fabulous long point. It all depends on what you're looking for. I wanted TWO helical sharpeners so I wouldn't run out of help. Nothing like a decent sharpener to make coloring a true pleasure. I RECOMMEND this sharpener! Dahle's "big brother!"

no mounting bracker
Good sharpener. Kind of complicated had to look on line how to use the thing. I gave it 4 stars because it has no way to mount it to a table top which makes it hard to use

Precise, Stylish, Charming
This Mitsubishi manual sharpener is both functional and stylish, making it a standout among everyday desk items. It sharpens pencils to a precise, fine point, which is especially useful for writing or detailed sketching. The mechanism feels smooth and reliable, giving consistent results without much effort. The design is where it truly shines. The glossy red body contrasts beautifully with the matte black parts, creating a look that’s bold yet refined. It’s not just a tool—it doubles as a decorative piece that brightens up a workspace with its retro charm. What’s impressive is how it balances utility and aesthetics. You get sharp, clean tips every time, while also enjoying a desk accessory that feels almost collectible. Cute, practical, and eye-catching, it’s an easy favorite.

Excellent results
This sharpener, the KH-20, offers similar results compared with my old Caran d'ache and a newer Koh I Noor. Comparably priced with X-Acto 1001, Dahle 155, and even the Carl Angel 5, It seems to have a better "feel." Not quite at 500 uses so far but close, this Mitsubishi still has a refined sharpness and handles the irregular wood knots (sometimes found in Musgrave Tennessee Reds) with smooth ease as you would expect from a more costly sharpener. This surprised me considering it has only one rotating blade and yet makes an even cut collar. I was looking for an inexpensive but reasonable quality crank sharpener for backroom/workroom use but now keep it accessible at home. Only a few tip breaks have occurred and almost no over-sharpening. I tend toward using B2 to B12 graphites and it is very good at creating a a nice point for any pencil ranging from my 1970s Mongols to my new Tom Bows and Blackwings. It is limited to standard sizes and I wish it came with a table clamp. I had to order that separately.

A definite must have for a crank sharpener!

A simple sharpener but it gives lovely long point, does not leave teeth marks from the gripping mechanism in the pencil and automatically stops when the pencil is sharp. What more do you need from a sharpener? Very happy with my purchase.
