Q: Will it collapse by itself if i hold it all the way up, and can i have it do it by themselves

You have to push it back down. It does not collapse by itself.

Q: I like the soft ends. but i'm worried about what i'll have if (when?) they fall off and i don't have replacements. anybody have this happen?

I'm afraid I can't help you I've never had one fall off they seemed fairly sturdy, it seems to be a good product and they're used every day.

Q: How do you put the lanyard on? I’ve tried several times and it’s not working out

Put the thin string through the hole; Put the thick rope through the hole of the thin string; Finally, pull the thick rope.

Q: is the tip covered when the rubber end is removed, or is it an open empty end with no solid tip?
