Q: Why do I only get rainbow bars on everything?

Rainbow bars are the default output of the device when it has no input (or can’t detect an input). This means that the device is working, but your input is not. Check your source and the cable you are using.

IF IT WORKS YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO SELECT THE INPUT IN THE CAPTURE SOFTWARE IE OBS, BUT THIS DEVICE WORKS FOR A BIT THE STOPS AND NEVER WORKS AGAIN I BINNED MINE

if your camera has a HDMI out , then iit will capture it

Q: Does this essentially allow you to mirror the display of your primary system onto the secondary system so you can record it as a seperate desktop?

Yes it can be used this way. Check that the source resolution is compatible though.
