This book was perfect for him
My father has been in a memory care facility since May. What's evident since his dementia began to show up is that he still has a keen memory for his long career in the U. S. Marine Corps. This book was perfect for him. But more importantly it was perfect for me. I wept in my first read and I weep now as I share this with you. If you are a Marine, know a Marine, were a Marine, married a Marine, or were raised by a Marine, this book will melt your heart. This book is a intimate tribute to my Marine father and perhaps yours too.

Goodnight Moon begot Goodnight Bush begot Goodnight Marines
Goodnight Moon is an American children's book written by Margaret Wise Brown and illustrated by Clement Hurd. It was published on September 3, 1947, and is a highly acclaimed bedtime story. It features a bunny saying "good night" to everything around: "Goodnight room. Goodnight moon. Goodnight cow jumping over the moon. Goodnight light, and the red balloon ...". Goodnight Bush: A Parody (ISBN 031604041X) is a book by Gan Golan and Erich Origen, former employees of Donald Rumsfeld who met while working at a dot-com. Published on May 27, 2008, it takes a satirical look back at the presidency of George W. Bush, using the popular children's book Goodnight Moon as a jumping off point. Described as a "traumedy" by its authors, the book touches on issues including torture, war for profit, the government's response to Hurricane Katrina, and the hunt for Osama bin Laden. The unauthorized parody was submitted unsolicited to the Little, Brown publishing house in a clear envelope. Although the company had been previously sued for publishing the parody book Yiddish with Dick and Jane, they decided to publish it under the fair use doctrine of copyright law.Set in a situation room, the story follows President Bush, who appears as a grinning figure in a flight suit as he prepares for bed. Other characters include Dick Cheney as a grumpy figure sitting in a rocking chair with a shotgun (a reference to the Dick Cheney hunting incident, and Osama bin Laden as a scurrying mouse, parodying the Bush administration's failure to capture him. Unlike the original book, which proceeds from 7pm to 8:10pm, the clock on the nightstand is stuck at 9:11, with the three bears in chairs replaced by "war profiteers giving three cheers".The book was well-received on its release, with reviewers commenting not only on its humor but also on its close resemblance to Goodnight Moon in terms of illustrations, rhyming scheme, and even its smell, which was due to the reuse of the original ink and paper. However, many reviewers also pointed to the dark content of the book, which ends with the U.S. Constitution in tatters and full of crayoned redactions, a scale balancing church and state leaning wholly towards "church", and a final goodnight to "failures everywhere".Goodnight Marines is a picture book in the manner of Goodnight Moon. It is an imaginative adventure that teaches about the culture and traditions of the United States Marine Corps.

Great book
This is a great book for all ages. Great pictures, clear text. Perhaps the best thing is that I only found out about this book a few days ago. Through theefforts of someone (David Dixon? Amazon?) It arrived in time for Christmas! Thank you so much. The 4 children of the Marine who will get this book, will cherish it because it is (in their mind) about THEIR DAD! I loved the Marine Hymn in the back of the book. This book should be widely available to Marines, their families and friends and all Americans who reap the benefits of living in a country protected by Marines and other Military.Thanks.BTW...Any plans for "Goodnight Soldier", "Goodnight Sailor", "Goodnight Airman/Airwoman", "Goodnight Coastie"?? I think it would have a big market.

It is a great book for him because his dad is a Marine
I bought this for my grandson. It is a great book for him because his dad is a Marine. But don't let that be a limiting factor for you.Today's society seems to have excluded heros from the public market place. That is quite unfortunate because this book, although designed for children, is a great read. It will inspire them. Help them to feel safe. And acquaint them with some of our heros. It is well worth the read. Your children will really enjoy it!Oh, by the way I'm a retired Army paratrooper so I'm not spewing you the party line. With that said: "Goodnight Marines! Thank you for your service!"

Goodnight Marines from Rory
I purchased "Goodnight Marines" for Rory, my soon to be (June 19th 2017) 2 year old Granddaughter. She was delighted with "Goodnight Marines" from the first time I read to her! Rory loves the bright colors and unique images, especially the Marines in their uniforms and "Chesty", the dog. She recognizes, and points to "Chesty" as a "dog", and knows the word "dog", since she has two Boston Terriers at home. Whenever I reach for the book and sit down, Rory IMMEDIATELY climbs into my lap as I read to her, and "helps me turn the pages"; on many occasions Rory hands me the book so that I can read to her, noting the word "dog". "Goodnight Marines" has obviously become Rory's favorite. I will definitely purchase "Goodnight Marines" again for younger children of family and friends. David Dixon: Thank you for a wonderful book! My Granddaughter loves it!

Just a great book!
This is a great book! It covers a wide variety of military occupations in its storyline. The illustrations are beautiful as well. The book also covers some Marine Corps history offering definitions of terms seen throughout the book. And of course, it wouldn't be complete without the Marines Hymn at the end of the story.A must have for Marines and all service members who want to give a special gift to their little ones before they deploy. I myself have been in the USMC for a little over 19 years now, and have seen the pain in little ones' eyes when their mommy or daddy is being shipped off overseas to do what they do best. In some ways, this book is more than just a book, it can also be therapeutic to young family members.Even if you have not served in the Marine Corps or the military, this is still a wonderful piece of art to learn some history and traditions that are so near and dear to all Marines. Easy to read and very entertaining, not just for children, but to all of us big kids as well. From one Marine to another, job well done Sir, and Semper Fi!
