a nice balance of price, performance, and DURATION
snorkel / scuba - checked these through to BVI for scuba/snorkel adventure, and don't regret the hassle. on the surface, snorkeling, you can cover a lot of ground, and as with most beach starts, the reef can be quite a way out. this makes that a zero stress event, as you just 'power out' and actually see stuff you might not, e.g., random barracuda, rays, octopus, etc. once there, while they are NOT a substitute for a flotation device, e.g., you cannot sit on them and expect them to keep you up, they are an amazing confidence builder for weak and strong swimmers alike, as you can just 'hang on them' as you float and they do significently reduce the fatigue, and you know that you can just power back. during our trip, we shared 3 units among 6 snorkel/divers and the ratio was okay, but it did mean multiple trips in the same day on one charge, which is where this unit has more than enough staying power, just keep in mind that they will be on the charger that night for ... hours. we also dove with them to 80 feet on the Rhone wreck. Fantastic to be able to power down, cruise, power to a new location, cruise ... and on the off chance you want to bump something, you have a 'tool' to do so. we were able to check through as airline luggage in the supplied bag (which while a must have for these units, the back itself is a genuine pice of c$#& ... do NOT trust the shoulder strap with PLASTIC clips, they will just break, and grap a pair of pliers and just pull of the feet, which are 'nailed' on with ring nails, as they are just going to come off anyway, and then you have nails sticking through the bottom of your bag :-( that said, I did stuff each back with a BUNCH of beach towels to pad it out and protect the unit in all directions. there is also, imo, a defective design with regard to the battery leads, so just be aware, and CAREFUL. specifically, they take a standard (sealed) motorcyle battery and attach a couple 6" leads for you to clip/attach to the harness coming out of the unit. to attach the wire leads to the batter they crimp on a connector, cover with heat shrink and then fill the battery 'indent' with epoxy. on the surface, this make a nice waterproof connection, but, the connector is HIGHLY succeptible to metal fatigue and will simply break off. we had this happen to one unit and had to search out a shop with a soldering iron to effect a field repair. bottom line is that you need to be carefull not to bend, twist, rotate the wire leads coming out of the battery when you put the battery into the unit, and when you have it out for charging. I ended up making an effort to tape the leads down to the battery in an attempt to minimize their range of motion. I sent in a note suggesting that the solder the leads directly to the battery terminal and bypass the crimp-on, but for now, and maybe forever, it is what it is, so just be careful.

Pretty much just an on/off switch
TRUST ME, READ MY REVIEW. I purchased the GTI Supercharged model from scuba.com and it turned into a loud coffee grinder after 4 uses, seized and stopped. Exchanged it for another identical one that did the exact same thing with just 3 uses. Returned and got my money back. I then purchased this GTI one from Amazon due to the fact that it has the same top speed and maybe the gearbox would be simpler with it having only one speed. Pretty much just an on/off switch. As usual it was so much fun the first use, then wouldn't even come on the next day after a overnight charge. A short circuit in the wiring I guess. So returned it as well and am contemplating trying one more time. The absolute crazy thing about these scooters is how much fun they are. I think they're a blast! I weigh 220lbs and they drag me all over the place with ease. I live in the Cayman Islands and exploring shallow reefs on them is so much fun. You can just leave your fins on the beach and roll with just a mask and snorkel. Because I exert absolutely no energy while riding it, I can go for like 1 minute, 40 second rides along the bottom with ease. It truly is a blast! The problem is that I want one SO BAD but cant seem to get luck enough to purchase one that will last for more than 4 rides. Its the weirdest thing! Its the hardest thing to compare to any other aspect in life. To want something so bad, and keep buying lemon after lemon... Am I just unlucky? Maybe... I will be buying my fourth one soon, though the third time was supposed to be the charm... If it fails, I will quit, I swear! In conclusion, if you do buy one, ride it every day, and charge it every night for like two weeks straight. If it doesn't break you should be fine for a while. If it does break, at least you'll be within the 30 day return window. I'd love any feedback from anyone with (a) a perfect working one cuz I just might buy it from you... haha, or (b) anyone who is going through my similar dilemma. Happy dpv-ing! Cheers!

Lots of Fun
Great underwater scooter. Took it to the Florida Keys with some family friends and the kids couldn't get enough of it. Battery life is good too.

this is the second unit I have owned. the newest one which i have used maybe a dozen times worked great until it started grinding this week while diving in the Keys. Warranty was over as I have owned it for a few months. my friend and I took it apart and the gears were no longer usable due to the grinding I was hearing. My old unit had a broken switch on the left side so we replaced it and it still did not work. I took it apart and somehow water had gotten into the unit which destroyed the battery which I had replaced a few months ago. So we took the old gears out of the flooded unit and put it on my newer model. Works well now but will have to buy another Sea Doo since my wife and I both use one.. Overall, the units are good in the water but I would not consider it a scooter that will last a long time. I would expect to replace every year or so if you use it a lot a and I do. If I can get 12 to 18 months out of a unit, so be it. My guess is that is will cost me about $10 a dive which is not terrible for a pretty expensive sport. I just ordered my third and hope for the best. For the price I am OK, Ordering parts is easy but if you are not good at repairing things other than changing a battery, it could be disappointing. They are a treat when working well, but salt water will destroy most everything in short order. I had to change the brain, the battery and the left switch on my old unit for about $150. Now it is a pile of spare parts. I would have been better off buying a new one rather than trying to make repairs along the way. Even after saying all of this, I ordered a new one today.

Quality was slightly disappointing, had issues with battery and the air lock pump sucks. very good in the water, very easy to use.

Brilliant product, performed exactly as specified, works very well in a pool but really intended for more serious depths and uses .
