I love this thing!
I bought this backpack about 5 months ago and wanted to use it a few times before writing a review. I love this thing! It compacts so small. It’s perfect for travel when you need a nice quality day pack. I also used it for a 20 mile hike/race. It was super light, comfortable, breathable, carried all my rain gear, snacks, waterbottle, wallet, hat. Walking sticks were a little hard to carry in there.. it wasn’t tall enough for some foldable walking sticks. The material and zippers are quality and seem to still be holding up to the abuse I put it through. I definitely would gift this to someone that likes to travel or go on spontaneous adventures!

Indispensible when space is tight
I've gotten 10 years of use out of mine. It's finally showing signs of wear, and I intend to get another when the current one is no longer usable. It's quite strong despite the modest weight. I can safely carry my laptop, camera with 200mm lens, and my chargers (my electronics that I can't/won't pack in my checked luggage when I fly). The backpack particularly helpful when I'm flying and am not allowed a bag in the overhead bin. This will leave enough space for your feet under the seat in front of you. Folding it is also intuitive. I don't even know how I do it, but it just works.

Very roomy, secure for water bottles and love the deep pockets!
Purchased the 33L bag in black. Bag arrived earlier than expected, which was excellent. First thing I noticed was a very very strong smell... smelled like Bounce dryer sheets. The smell is so strong that I had to air the bag outside my home, as I can smell it within the home. Not sure if this was due to the packing or the delivery service, but I can't use the bag until the smell is gone. Took away one star because of the strong smell. Feature wise, the bag is as advertised. Light and roomy! Very roomy actually! I especially love the rubber bungees that are placed above each water bottle side pocket. Put in a filled Klean Kanteen bottle, and bent over while carrying the bag. The bungees did an excellent job of keeping the water bottle from falling out. This is such an excellent feature! I also like that the two front pockets are quite deep, so you can put lots of items in there. The shoulder straps are wide and comfortable. If there were one thing on my wish list for this bag, it would be removable chest straps. As the bag is quite big (33L), I foresee carrying a fair bit of weight at times, and the chest strap might come in handy. Overall an excellent bag! Can't wait to use it once the smell is gone! UPDATE: Have started using the 33L bag, and it is indeed very comfortable (thanks to the wide shoulder straps). I love that the water bottle is very securely held in place so I don't have to worry about it dropping out. For my height (1.62m / 5 '3"), I've shortened the shoulder straps to the max, and I can feel the items a little on the top of my bum, but it not in a way that's bothered me. So all good there. Just something to take note of in case you're quite petite.

Perfect Backpack for Vacation!
I bought the Outlander Packable Lightweight Travel Backpack for a week-long Disney World vacation, and it exceeded my expectations! The bright orange color really stands out in a crowd, even at night, making it easy to spot. It’s super lightweight and comfortable to carry all day, yet still holds plenty of essentials. Plus, it folds up neatly into a compact little package when not in use. Practical, fun, and perfect for travel!

The Magical Backpack! [UPDATED TWO YEARS LATER]
UPDATE: It's been two years since I got this bag and it is still a little amazing wonder! I'm finally caving and buying another because after two years of abuse, the water resistance isn't what it used to be. Other than that? The bag looks just as it did the day I got it (but a little dirtier). There are no rips or tears or snags anywhere. I will continue to use this bag for some things but I need that water resistance. I think that the abuse it's taken over the two years it has served me is above and beyond anything any other bag could've survived (I had one piece of expensive luggage not survive the same trips as this backpack) My bag has served me extremely well during my initial month long adventure mentioned in the first review. It then spent Christmas in Budapest, tons of short trips near home, January and February well above the Arctic Circle in Finland, a month island hopping in Greece, and a last minute trip to see the solar eclipse in Oregon. I love it and it has definitely served me well. I look forward to the new adventures I will have with my new (more water resistant) bag! **************************************************************** This bag has wowed and amazed people the world over. Well, not the whole world but a few countries and I've no doubt that it will continue to wow and amaze. I bought it specifically for a month long urban adventure with my mum in Europe where we had a flat and shopped at markets and grocery stores. This pack lived in my regular travel bag and, occasionally, in my purse (which is not a large purse by any means) ready for any occasion we would need a larger bag or when we would stop at the market or grocery for provisions. I was always met with skepticism when I turned down a plastic bag and pulled out this tiny, green pouch. At one grocery, the employee was so fascinated that she demanded that I "do it again" while she called her co-workers over to witness the magic of a sizable backpack emerging from a little pouch. My mum, of course, asked me if they were going to burn me at the stake as they all oooh'd and aaaaaah'd at the "magic!" She's precious, my mum. The bag also came in handy for wet swimming suits and wet towels and, turned inside out, dried out straightaway. You can stuff a shocking number of items in here. Items with corners, heavy items, delicate items... It's like Mary Poppin's bag, really. Best of all, it's really comfortable to wear once you've shoved bottles of drink and dinner and breakfast for two (plus a bottle of liquor) in it. I remember reading others mentioning height issues so I'm a whopping 5'2" and it worked fine for me. My mum is somewhere just under 5' and she was comfortable wearing it as well.

So many reasons to buy this! Awesome bag, well built & lightweight
All the reasons to buy this great little backpack: (1) Convenient to keep in the luggage for those extra things you bring home. (2) So lightweight, but very sturdy and well made, perfect for lugging around all your "stuff" when at attractions / hiking (3) For reason number 2 above, great to keep 1 in your car / beach bag / tote (4) I recommend picking up a nice neutral color so no one has an excuse not to carry it! (for all those extra's & maybe someone else will carry the extra bag) (Why does everyone hand me their jackets / keys / collectible cups when finished... etc.???) I am not a pack mule... lol... nice thing is no one minds slinging this over their shoulder. (5) So small and compact when in its pouch & yes, I tried putting it back in the pouch myself to see if it would fit & with very little effort was able to repack it (almost) as good as factory compactness. Nice and convenient, I keep 1 in my luggage permanently so I will not forget it. Awesome for movie bag... I will buy their soda and popcorn, but draw the line at the candy... hit the dollar store on the way and have everyone pick out their favorites!!! (I digress... ahem.... yes, this is a great multi-purpose bag that is so convenient & compact when not in use :-) I really rely on honest reviewers, real purchasers, so please click below if this info has helped at all. Thank you and Enjoy!

The Perfect Travel Pack!
I have owned this backpack for YEARS! I hike with it on day hikes and recently packed it into my suitcase to use for shopping excursions and light hikes on our trip. I just came back to buy one for my mom. I agree with another review that says to use shorter water bottles, and that is true even with my North Face Borealis. They are not made to carry full on water bottles. It's water resistant, lightweight, easy on the shoulders, and has no signs of wear.

2nd Outlander backpack -- but not as durable
I've had this brand and style of backpack for several years. It's traveled with me to many countries and I just love it. So lightweight, durable and comfortable to carry. My first Outlander is still in pretty good condition but thought to get a new, fresh one for new travels since the "New Outlander" logo had worn off. The second purchase I'm not so happy with. I've only used it twice and the stitching around the outside bottle holder is shredding - see photo. Unfortunately it's too late to return and I may just go back to using my first backpack purchase. Disappointing.
