No Variable Speed
All great but don't let the picture fool you. There is no variable speed as shown in the versatility picture. Why would they do that? Maybe I'll send it back. Otherwise real nice soft start and paddle switch is great. Great Makita quality but misleading photo.

Just About Perfect...
This is a very powerful angle grinder. I have four other angle grinders, all between 5.8 and 8 amps. When I have to hog out a lot of wood with a 4 inch Saburr Tooth Donut Wheel, it can bog down my less powerful grinders. But when I put them on this machine with its 13 amps, it will run all day and not bother it. If it does slow down, I am using way too much pressure and will probably burn my wheel if I keep it up. Using more torque and less pressure seems to work well on very dry and hard black walnut and Alligator Juniper.I purposely chose one without a variable speed control because they are the first thing that breaks and need to be replaced. Then you have down time and expense while you take it in to the shop or send it away to be fixed. I have found that about the only tool that I need a speed control on is a die grinder, due to the different rpm's needed for different type of burrs. I have already replaced the speed control on one of my die grinders twice. Each time it happened, it had less than 3 hours of use on it.If you clean your tools with compressed air each time you use them, they will last a lot longer than if you don't. I was also told to run them, (while blowing them out), and to apply the air to the base of the tool, and to direct it upward. This draws the air through the tool, cleaning the whole thing. This removes more dust and dirt, thus cleaning it better, hence, it will last longer. You can remove skin and appendages this way too, so disarm the tool first. The only thing this tool lacks is a lock-on switch. That would make this grinder just about perfect.
