Tetsuro Hoshino was once a boy willing to give anything to board the Three-Nine, including a promise to accompany a mysterious woman named Maetel to the other side of the Galaxy, if only to fulfill a vow to avenge the cruel death of his mother at the hands of the villainess Count Mecha. Now, two years after the events of Galaxy Express 999, Earth has become a battlefield, and Tetsuro is summoned to board the Three-Nine once more.

While the 999 is being pursued by spacecraft and attack satellites Captain Harlock and Maetel's sister Emeraldas intervene with their warships to protect the 999 and work together to destroy Prometheum. There are some stunning and amazing space animations in this and the story is heartfelt. Watched digital streaming with Prime Video.

Finally on DVD
Before this film came out in Japan (1981), Galaxy Express 999 had been a manga, TV series and feature-film. This film feels like more of a re-telling of the previous film than a sequel to it (boy gets on train... 2 1/2 hours pass... then a machine planet is destroyed). But the feel of this film is different. The film seems a bit more harsh and dark, even in the colors on the screen. The animation is a bit of a step up from Galaxy Express 999.With this DVD you get:* The film, uncut and restored. The colors are quite sharp.* The Viz dub from 1996 is used. Japanese audio and subtitles are also available.* A short image gallery* A trailer for Galaxy Express 999, the same one as on the Galaxy Express 999 disk.* A trailer for Adieu Galaxy Express 999, the same one as on the Galaxy Express 999 disk.* The "Sayonara - love light" song is used in the menus. It's been 15 years since this film was released on VHS by Viz. It's nice that a clean copy of this film finally made it to DVD.

the second movie
This is some time after the first movie Galaxy Express 999. Tetsuro Hoshino ison Earth trying to survive attacks by the Machine People when he receives amessage from Maetel. But there are secrets and mysteries behind their reunionwhen a man named Faust confronts Tetsuro! Also Captain Harlock and QueenEsmereldas joins the fight! This is the English Dub and some of the voice actorsreturn to do their characters. I would have liked more Captain Harlock thoughand some more to Faust's backstory. Good movie, but it is different from theGalaxy Express 999 t.v. series. Must watch!

#SPOILER#
When I saw this movie in the theater in Japan people cried at the end and I did too, but I had no idea! In the scene where Maeteru is told by her older sister Emeraldas that she can’t go with Tetsuro, I thought she’d added that her long journey was over and that for her, this was the end. I thought that was a sad end for her but no, she tells Maeteru is that her long journey has no end. That it has no end….ever. She’s been sentenced to an eternal life of sadness, duty and obligation without end....

Sequal to Galaxy Express 999
The sequel to the cult classic Galaxy Express 999. I saw the first movie over 20 years ago the first time and finally found it here on Amazon. With that I found there was a sequel and purchased that as well. I preferred the original, but the sequel continues the story off where the first left off and provides some more detail to the back story of the mechanized home world.
