I almost cried when this book arrived!!
One week after brining my elderly Mother in law to live with us, my husband suffered a traumatic carotid artery dissection & was put on Coumadin. Between my MIL - a non compliant, sugar addicted diabetic and the terror of having my husband either throw a clot or bleed from having too much Vitamin K - I was at my wits end trying to keep them both fed while accommodating their dietary restrictions. This book is a God-Send and a lifesaver. With lists of low Vit K foods as well as the most comprehensive food index of Vit K I've been able to find - including exhaustive internet searches and trips to the library to search medical texts - this book is a reference that will save me hours! Plus, with recipes that list both Vit K AND CARBS ... I can choose recipes that won't kill either one of them. If you have a need to balance your Vitamin K intake BUY THIS BOOK! Our doctors had little insight and the ICU dumped us onto the street with the words: "don't eat grapefruit or cranberries... Oh, and don't eat green vegetables like kale". Totally not helpful. Buy this book, you'll be glad you did!Update:A good friend recently was prescribed Coumadin “for life”. His particular problem is not treatable with a more user friendly medication.I immediately loaned his wife my copy. She was EXTREMELY happy to have this wonderful book to help her make meals that her husband will enjoy and that will keep his INR in the correct range.Sadly, this book is becoming very hard to find.If you happen to be the publisher: please publish an updated version and print a ZILLION COPIES!!

Great resource for a low vitamin k diet
My dad had recent heart surgery and will be on Coumadin for life so this book was a great help in figuring out a good diet plan for him. The recipes are straightforward and simple, plus there is a list of foods along with their vitamin K content that is great for keeping track of it.

This is a good Cookbook, however
This is a good Cookbook, however, what I most especially appreciate are the tables of the vitamin K content of various foods. The list is extensive, as opposed to the "list of green vegetables" the physicians office hands you that is simply a placard with admonitions against "eating anything green". You certainly CAN eat green vegetables, but must do so with the knowledge of vitamin K content and CONSISTANT knowledge and habits of eating. You need green veggies and salads. Coumadin can be adjusted. You need not deprive yourself and this book helps you understand that. I think it is worthy.

A Great Guide for Coumadin Users
I find this cookbook not only great for the recipes, but also for the other helpful hints. The information ranges from what people on blood thinners should or should eat to how to store yourtomatoes for the best possible flavor! I highly recommend the Hamburg Casserole. This was not only avery tasty meal, but also provided with enough leftovers for the next day.I even take it to the grocery store if I am in any doubt of what to buy. It has a very handy guide for the foods thatare high in Vitamin K. The guide is very well done and easy to use.I do strongly feel if you are a user of Coumadin, this book should be a must for you.

The Coumadin Cookbook: A Guide to Healthy Meals.
I love this cookbook! As a person who is taking Coumadin & limited in foods I can eat, I found this book to be a gift from heaven. Kudos to the author who wrote it. My meals would be so boring without this book! I keep this book on my dining room table where it only a "touch" away." I have recommended this book to others who take Coumadin. When one is taking a medication which definitely limits what foods they can or should not eat, life can get pretty boring. I have "dog-eared" many pages in the book, I haven't tried all the recipes yet, but I certainly will! That's a sure bet!Marcia Essig, Ph.D.Marcia Essig, Ph.D.
