Probably not. The guard tips allow only a thin beak from a humming bird or Bullock's Oriole (several feed from it) to reach the nectar. Without the tips, the opening is large enough to let a bee access it.

Wow, what kind of person shoots squirrels? That's horrible and you should be ashamed of yourself. How about putting it in a place squirrels can't get to or use a baffle.

No, the feeder doesn’t come with food. You can make the hummer food by using a 4:1 ratio of water and sugar. 4 cups of water to 1 cup of sugar. Do not buy the food with red dye, it’s not good for the hummingbird.
