A very friendly Warning
Consider this not exactly as a review, but as a warning from a friend, in case you haven't seen this film yet and are curious about it. There are already many good reviews here dealing with the cinematographic, technical, cultural etc aspects of this film, so I won't add anything new there. This is not about the film, but about you, the potential viewer. As many other reviewers, I've seen a significant amount of "extreme" or strong horror movies. Fear and shock are powerful emotions, and films are a safe and entertaining way of experiencing them. Some of them left a deep impression in me, sometimes for a few days, but that eventually vanishes. With this film, it's a different story. It may leave permanent scars in your mind that will ruin some of the best experiences of your life, such as witnessing the birth of your child or lying in bed caressing a son's hair. Violent and obscene thoughts will keep intruding, and it's scary for me to think how much this can affect some people. If you think that you may belong to this group, don't risk it. There are many good films out there, and you may go on living without watching this one. Otherwise, go and watch it, but just remember that images can not be erased from your brain afterwards. This is why this is so different. The fear does not come during the movie. It comes after. And it is too real.

Don't buy the 95 minute version
Buying the 95 minute version of this film is like going to the store and buying a carton of eggs, only when you get home and begin to make breakfast, you find out all your eggs are just empty shells without egg inside them. If you remove the shock value from a shock film, it becomes worthless because it serves no purpose. If you really want to see this film the way the makers intended, buy the 104 minute version. Amazon also has a 3 disc limited edition set that features the uncut bluray (with English subs), the uncut DVD and a cd soundtrack. It will set you back a bit more than this version but....as they say, you get what you pay for...

Let's see
OK, I've ordered this but not watched it yet so I'll edit and add details once I've seen it.I don't shock particularly easily but this is obiously designed to make people VERY uneasy. It conjures difficult questions:If you are making a film about an extremely twisted subject, how far do you go in producing a twisted film? How badly do you have to make the audience feel to get your point across? And then, was it worth exposing the audience to the film in the first place? If the point of the film is critical of human atrocity, are the filmmakers also guilty of producing an atrocity. There are paralells to war...especially the yugoslavian conflict. When you join the military, you have no idea what you are getting in to. And regardless of what images you may see in games, films or the news, all out war is the most atrocious thing you can experience. It has no boundaries and no limits, no ethics and no morals. Most people in the UK and US stay blissfully distant from war. That's not a bad thing. But consider that if you approve of war, this film won't even come close to the atrocity of what you are condoning.

This sort of film doesn't need to be seen.
When you are someone who watches lots of movies and enjoyes movies, you become one of those people who just has to watch everything it becomes your silly hobby. Now, I have seen this film uncut, and I'll tell you why I watched this movie, I watched this movie because I knew exactly what it was, I knew it was meant to be a really horrible movie because that is what the director of the film wanted. It does it's job very well, it's a very dark and hard movie to watch, you have to go into this knowing that it's not a good film but a film that is meant to be sickening. This movie has been called art, I won't bother arguing that fact because everyone sees things in their own way, but it certainly isn't nice art. Before watching this you have to do some research to find out more about why this movie got made, find out what the point of the movie was and ask yourself if you want to watch it. I was interested by this because of what I heard, the film really does show just how disturbing and evil the world can be and it does a great job of getting it's message across. It's a very dark and distressing film and for that reason it's done what it was meant to. I didn't like the child themed stuff and thought it was pretty disgusting that there was so much of it, but that's what it is so nothing you can do, if you can't handle it walk away and don't look back. Did this film need to be made? Nah not really. Is it one everyone should watch? Nah not really, it's one anyone can watch if they really want to either because they want to see how bad it is or they are just curious about the film itself and want to watch it to simply understand. Is it a good film? No, wasn't meant to be, it's a really horrible film and that's all it is, just because a movie did what it was meant to do doesn't make it good. Anyone who thinks this movie is really good may not want to admit that to anyone. It's a very powerful film I'll give it that, but I really can't bring myself to like it. I watched it all the way to the end and when it was over I was glad.
