Wow, a coorded drill with a brake, I've been searching for this forever!
I have a ton of drills, a bosch sds hammer drill, a 10amp dewalt, 7amp dewalt, a couple ridged 9amp spade drills, a milwaukee screw gun, a makita 4amp angle drill, 18v milwaukee hammer drill and ratcheting drill, all of which are 5 star drills, and then I have some old beaters I like to throw around. The 10amp dewalt is most comparable to this Hitachi DEWALT DWD210G 10-Amp 1/2-Inch Pistol-Grip Drill . The Dewalt is heavier, and has an overload protect feature which shuts it off if it gets too hot. This 9amp hitachi is the only coorded drill I have found that has an electric brake, or any brake for that matter, which is completely awesome and something I've been looking for, for awhile. For the life of me I can't think why dewalts 7amp pistol grip drill doesn't have any kind of break, people are obviously getting a drill that size as a general purpose drill that will include some fastening. The electric brake on the hitachi, works like many 18v coorded drills clutch break, that stops the drill from spinning when you take your finger off. This makes it a viable coorded drill for fastening and screwing. And because this is a powerful 9amp drill, having a break on it to me is an impressive feature that sets this drill apart. And this drill, unlike the 10amp dewalt, is light enough to be held with one hand for short periods of time. The hitachi does come with a side handle, and you would need it if you were doing a lot of fastening. I would not hang drywall with this, it's much too heavy for that. But if you want to drill a pilot hole through a sheet of metal and a slab of oak and then run a screw into it, all with one tool, this would be your general-purpose-medium-duty drill. And because of this electric brake it makes the drill extremely versatile, and it's now my go-to drill of choice. The 10amp dewalt would be more for if you were using a hole saw in studs for 2 hrs straight or mixing up some concrete and don't want to ruin the drill.. the overload protect feature will keep you from ruining it. I like both drills. The dewalt is more powerful for sure, bigger, heavier, faster rotation, more torque. But to me the electric break is a wow factor.I really, REALLY like this drill.

Good Value
I have several Hitachi tools and all are great. This drill is no exception. Very quality product for a good price. I first purchased an equivalent Kobalt drill. The gears were stripped out of the box. I then was going to buy a Rigid, but the price jumped up $20 the day I went to buy it. I found this for a better price on closeout here as the name changed on the new ones. I use the drill to mix thinset. I only mix 10lbs at a time. I know, I know, I should use a thinset mixer, but they are expensive and I wanted something I could use for other purposes after. I am able to use this at a very low speed and it does not bog down at all. I mix for 5 minutes, let set for 10, and then mix for another 3. This drill does it with no issues. I could probably do more than 10 lbs with it, but I do not need to use more than that at one time. Very happy I purchased.

heavy duty with one design flaw in my opion
one issue i DONT like, there is a lock to allow the drill to stay running without continually holding the trigger, its in the way of your hand so i findkept accidentally pressing in on that... set to on continually without wanting it on and i had the drill get bound up on something and hank the drill right out of my hand, then instead of stopping when my finger came off drill it kept going round and round beating my hand against the wood framing i was drilling in, very bad design to put where they did.that being said, ive only used once and it feels like a very heavy duty drill. i might just disassemble the drill and take out that button or have to learn and get used to where it is so i dont hit it, might have even hit the button when the drill yanked out of my hand

I bought this as a backup to my cordless gear, and recently used it to mix mortar, then grout. It had a ton of power, and scoffed at the challenge. The CME/Harvest chuck on it seems good, though probably not of the precision that a Jacobs can offer. Still, this is a very good tool for well under a hundred bucks. The trigger can be a little sensitive, but there seems to be three ranges of speed, and it works well. I'm very pleased overall.Edit: Just wanted to check back in to say that this little beast has dealt with everything I can throw at it, and it hasn't even whimpered. Just a great tool at an amazing price. While I probably would have ponied up for the 650RPM unit with higher torque, they didn't offer that model at the time I purchased it. Great nonetheless.

Amateur driller, still love this drill.
I don't do a lot of drilling, and I am by no means experienced at it. Most of my drills in the past have been battery powered. My mose recent being a lithium ion battery powered drill I purchased at costco. I love that drill as well, it just doesn't have the power to get threw some metal sheets I was playing with. This drill is quite large and quite heavy duty, it comes with a handle you can screw in to either side for added stability on heavier jobs, utilizing a 1/2 drill bit. It is likely I overshot, and did not need a 1/2 drill. But I figure it only takes needing a 1/2 bit once, and I will be glad i purchased it.Other than the size, this drill works great. It comes with a key for the chuck that attaches to the power cord. My only complain is that the key is attached by a flimsy rubber attachment, that is long and doesn't seem like it would last very long. Because of the length of this key holder, it also tends to get in the way. Break feature is nice, not sure it is anything I would ever use....but I am sure people out there using this drill heavily all the time probably love it.

Sad that I bought it, and the "brake" is a joke.
I bought this primarily because of the brake and the "standard" 43mm collar.Sadly, the collar is longer than normal 43mm-collar-mount accessories generally accept.Further, the "brake" is a joke (unless I got a defective one?): It just slows down somewhat quickly like a normal geared drill would, rather than stopping on a dime like all of my cordless drills with real "brakes" do.Wish I hadn't bought it.
