Q: Can i test esr of an 18650 li ion with this?

I believe that it can. The manufacturer has a video on youtube demonstrating tests of sone batteries.

Q: does it consume alot of the battery power?

I purchased my esr meter about a year ago and have used it from time to time and have yet to replace the battery. My guess is that battery usage would be similar to that of a typical ohm meter. I am extremely happy with the purchase. It quickly determines the good or bad status of caps and would recommend its purchase. It will be worth the price the first time you diagnose a clean looking cap that is in fact internally damaged.

Q: I see it has an upper limit of 450volts. If you attempt to measure measure anything higher then 450v what happens? Does damage the meter? Not accurate

The 450V refers to a test capacitor's voltage rating, not the voltage the unit can withstand. This unit can test capacitors in circuit, but must be fully discharged before testing or damage will occur to the meter.

Must have for amp repairs.

Saw Uncle Doug using this on YouTube and thought I should get this as I had an old Fender amp I was restoring. This is the tool to have for checking old electrolytic capacitors.

I really like this meter. Saved tons of time !!!

Works well. I ordered tweezers for making it easier to test on board components. Even without the tweezers, this esr meter is easy to use with an easy to read chart on the front.

Disappointed, overrated

This is the worst piece of test equipment I ever purchased! Don't waste your money! My opinion it's junk!
