Great Quality Product so Far
I've had a WD hard drive that has been around with me for 3/4 years. Out of a sudden while working on the laptop for a few days straight, suddenly I noticed it stopped being recognized & tried to take it to a data recovery company, but no luck. That's when I got this hard drive. So far it hasn't crashed, or suddenly ejected. It is being recognized & has been working fine so far. If there are any changes, I will update. The rugged-ness & sturdiness of the hard drive is also really good.

Reliable, fast and spacious
I would take one star off it, but decided to leave a 5-star in the end, mainly because the feature that it is missing is not a standard thing for any hard drive and I'm biased because of having Adata HD710 Pro 5TB. While the Adata has a very handy and well thought through holder for short eSATA cable around its rubbery cover, this one has not. Other than that it meets everything that you expect from an external drive, plus rugged cover. I'd say that probably Adata will withstand more than this one, but on the other hand, G-drive has a better performance due to newer interface. I love both of them. Adata serves me well for good amount of years (probably a decade almost already), and G-drive for about half of it too, so no complains.

Super store
I had some problems with the initial loading of all my photos and it struggled to complete the job. I did a load of individual folder and it went fine but took some time this way. I suspect that video files caused some of the problems, so loaded them into their own folder…. again fine. It is working well and gives no problems. Another thought I had was that because of the number of .arw photo files etc., it may have overheated at the initial load up.

Great durable drive with one major let down for MAC users
Firstly this is well built and perfect for keeping in my camera bag for storing photos on the move via that GNARBOX. However one major issue is the cable that comes with it, doesn't fit ANY TB3, or USB C port on a MAC. Theres a light to confirm its powered and flashes for any activity. But come on why the bespoke cable?

Failed after 18mths
*UPDATE* After 18mths of light use (it's a backup drive, so only ever gets my PC's full image copied over to it every four weeks or so), it failed on me last night. A copy stopped, the LED light was permanently on, and it was clicking. I did 25yrs in tech support, so I know that when I drive starts to click, it's game over. Amazon are refunding me (the drive has a two year warranty) and it'll cost me significantly more to purchase a replacement, but I no longer trust this model with my data. It's a backup drive so I didn't lose anything, but it was pretty much full (5TB). There are other reviews of people having it fail after short periods of time, so I'd stay away from it if I were you and learn from all our bad experiences. *UPDATE* Seems like a decent drive. I haven't tested the water/weather/drop proofing yet (and don't really intend to do so on purpose) but it seems to have a lot of physical protection around the drive itself. It has a USB-C connector with a rubber port protector, and the speeds I've been seeing are what I'd expect for this type of drive. Looks pretty nice too. I'll update this review is I have any issues going forward.

All round good solution
Seems very well constructed has a dust cover when not in use. Bought to store files on computer as a permanent external hard drive to a paid data losses. Lovely colour easy to use. A little big for a paocket but it would easy fit in a camera bag or for having as a portable office so no need to take a laptop just plug in where you are. Ideal for Raw camera files and for editing on the go so you can avoid having too much data on your laptop. I’m considering getting another for taking with me all the time to back up my photos when out on jobs.

Very well protected but consequently weighty
The branding of "G-Technology 4 TB ArmorATD All-Terrain Drive" may not be immediately recognised but Western Digital will be and G-Technology is a specialist subsidiary of the long-established brand. All-Terrain Drives are available in several capacities up to 5Tb, the current maximum available in 2.5 inch format. The 4 and 5TB models are based on 15mm deep drive units with a rubber sleeve enclosing them; the smaller sizes use 9mm drive units, The data/power socket is USB-C with a waterproof rubber cover protecting it when not used. There is a small USB-C to USB 3.1 adapter included to ensure greater compatibility for the typically short cable. An activity LED is located within the area covered by the rubber slot cover. The drive is formatted to exFAT, compatible with both Windows and Mac PCs. The drive is an ideal portable storage device that can be used for any 'normal' purpose that any other non-ruggedised model could perform with the added advantage of being able to better resist damage through shock and water than most are able to allow. Data transfer speed isn't quite the fastest possible but 2.5-inch drives are always slower than 3.5-inch equivalents; for most purposes it should be more than adequate..

💪 Rugged Resilience, Compromised Connectivity
As an avid outdoor enthusiast and content creator, the G-Technology ArmorATD External Hard Drive caught my eye with its impressive claims of ruggedness and versatility. After putting this drive through its paces, I have a rather mixed review to share. Let's start with the positives. The build quality of this drive is truly impressive. The triple-layer shock resistance, rain- and dust-resistant enclosure, and 1000lb crush rating make it clear that this is a device built to withstand the rigors of on-location use. I've dropped it, splashed it with water, and even stepped on it (accidentally, of course), and the ArmorATD has shrugged off these challenges without a hitch. ✨ The storage capacity is also a major plus, with up to 5TB of space available to back up my precious photos and footage. This gives me the peace of mind to capture my adventures without worrying about running out of storage. However, the connectivity and performance issues are where this drive falls short in my experience. While the USB-C, Thunderbolt 3, and USB 3.0 compatibility is promising, I've encountered several frustrating instances of the drive not being recognized or experiencing significant slowdowns, especially when transferring large files. The included USB-C to USB-A adapter is a nice touch, but it doesn't always provide a seamless plug-and-play experience. I've had to troubleshoot connection problems on multiple occasions, which can be incredibly frustrating when you're in the middle of a shoot and need reliable storage. In terms of value, I'm left feeling a bit conflicted. The robust construction and ample storage capacity are definitely a plus, but the connectivity woes make me question whether the premium price tag is truly justified. Overall, the G-Technology ArmorATD is a mixed bag. It excels in its ruggedness and durability, but falls short in terms of consistent and reliable connectivity. If you prioritize sheer physical resilience over lightning-fast data transfer speeds, this drive might be worth a look. But if you need a truly hassle-free storage solution for your on-the-go content creation, you may want to explore other options. 🤔
