### **Review: Summer Bridge Activities 5th to 6th Grade Workbooks**As a parent who’s keen on keeping my child engaged and learning over the summer, I was thrilled to find the *Summer Bridge Activities 5th to 6th Grade Workbooks*. This comprehensive workbook set has been a fantastic tool for preventing the dreaded summer slide and ensuring my child is prepared for the upcoming school year. Here’s why I love it:#### **Content and Coverage**The workbook covers an impressive range of subjects—Math, Reading Comprehension, Writing, Science, Social Studies, and even Fitness. Each section is thoughtfully designed to reinforce concepts from 5th grade and gradually introduce 6th-grade material. My child has particularly enjoyed the reading comprehension and writing activities, which are engaging and just challenging enough to keep her interested without causing frustration. The inclusion of fitness activities is a fun bonus, promoting physical activity alongside academic work.#### **Structure and Organization**The workbook is divided into daily activities, which makes it easy to manage and track progress. Each day’s work is laid out clearly, with a mix of subjects to keep things interesting. I love that it doesn’t feel overwhelming; the bite-sized chunks are perfect for summer when kids want to balance learning with fun. The progress tracking stickers have been a hit with my daughter, giving her a sense of accomplishment as she completes each day’s activities.#### **Educational Value**The educational value of this workbook is outstanding. It does a great job of reinforcing key skills while introducing new concepts in a way that’s accessible and engaging. The math problems are varied and practical, covering everything from basic arithmetic to introductory geometry and fractions. The reading passages are diverse and interesting, promoting critical thinking and comprehension. The science and social studies sections are well-rounded, offering a broad spectrum of topics that are both informative and intriguing.#### **Flash Cards**The inclusion of flash cards is a fantastic addition. They’ve been great for quick reviews and practice, especially for math facts and vocabulary. My child enjoys the interactive aspect of using the flash cards, and they’ve been a useful tool for reinforcing what she’s learned in the workbook. They’re also convenient for on-the-go learning, making it easy to keep up with studies during car rides or while waiting for appointments.#### **Ease of Use**One of the best things about this workbook is how user-friendly it is. The instructions are clear, and the layout is intuitive, making it easy for kids to work independently. As a parent, I appreciate the answer key in the back, which makes it simple to check work and provide feedback. The workbook also includes tips and strategies for parents, which have been helpful in guiding my child’s learning.#### **Pros:**- **Comprehensive Coverage:** Includes a wide range of subjects, ensuring a well-rounded review.- **Daily Structure:** Organized into manageable daily tasks that prevent overwhelm.- **Engaging Content:** Keeps kids interested with diverse activities and topics.- **Flash Cards Included:** Great for quick review and reinforcing key concepts.- **Easy to Use:** Clear instructions and layout promote independent work.#### **Cons:**- **Paper Quality:** The pages could be a bit thicker to prevent bleed-through with markers.- **Limited Summer Themes:** More summer-themed activities could make it feel more seasonal.#### **Conclusion**Overall, the *Summer Bridge Activities 5th to 6th Grade Workbooks* are a fantastic resource for any parent looking to keep their child’s brain active and engaged over the summer. Great for summer!
These books are excellent at keeping my kiddos' brains sharp and preventing summer slide. I love that each day is assigned and the tasks are relatively quick. We've used other books in the past and we have found these to the best.

Challenging, needs extra materials
My daughter is very smart but has fallen ever so slightly behind in math, so I got her this workbook mostly for the math practice, but thought it'd be more palatable with other subjects thrown in. I only have her part time, so I figured we'd do more than one lesson a day. Some cons:- So far, lessons are taking us WAY more than 15 minutes. They are very advanced and require a lot of background knowledge, some of which she does not have. For example, in the first day's math lesson she needed long division, long multiplication, order of operations, dividing fractions, and decimals.- Need additional materials - We are two days in and lessons have asked for a dictionary and atlas. We do have a dictionary, but not an atlas, and it's taken a lot of me searching to find the right types of maps on the internet.- Flashcards are random. I think of flashcards as foundational knowledge that needs to be drilled and memorized (math facts, for instance). These flashcards are just math and word problems, and thus no more useful than the worksheets, though I suppose some kids might like the different format.Pros:- Like having it divided by day, even if it's taking 1.5 hours instead of 15 minutes.- Enjoy the mix of activities so it's not too much drilling of one thing and lets her have easier and harder lessons

Great Way To Keep The Skills Fresh Over The Summer!
This is a great activity book to help keep your child stay mentally active when out of school for the summer. Over the years we have purchased a few different Summer Bridge books for our daughter. These books are not meant to be a full school curriculum, but instead a way to keep children mentally active during the summer break. Each summer we do our best to keep skills active and minimize the loss during the extended break. While we sometimes mix in other work to help her to increase skills, we are more worried about the atrophy that happens when not in school. It can be tough returning to school after 3 months without any schoolwork and we try to help her keep topics fresh without filling her summer with full days of 'school' work.As with other books in this series, this is a solid mix of skills with some being easy and others more of stretch. The difficulty level will likely depend on the schooling your child got during the academic year. I suspect most kids heading into sixth grade will find much of the work in this book at least a strong refresher and potentially give them a nudge in some areas. The exercises are organized to be a roughly 15 minute daily regime but you may decide to enhance it with other work if your child has areas that need more attention (i.e., add in more math or spelling activities). This book is not deficient in an area, we just occasionally add a little extra for topics that we feel could use a bit more work while still keeping the total workload to around 45-60 minutes per day. The Summer Bridge Activities book is a constant though with at least one page used almost every day and the other work rotated.

Great tool
Bought this for my son and even though he was reluctant he did a few pages a day. Now that he's back in school he's said it really helped him so he doesn't feel as lost as some of his classmates. It was a great tool to keep his mind fresh on his studies all summer without over whelming him at the same time.
