This pump works so well it's probably illegal
In the flood of recalled, defective, and downright dangerous products, it's a delight to find something that works as fabulously well as this pump does. It gives water the boot in a hurry! And it arrives good to go right out of the box, with no assembly required. All you have to do is screw on a regular garden hose (not included with the pump) and plug it in. It's small (mine fits in the sump pit right next to the old feeble pump), so it's a cinch to move to wherever you need it.A few things worth knowing before you fire up the pump.1. There are some instructions about starting the pump without the garden hose to avoid an air block. This is not a good idea, especially if you are inclined to hover over the pump while starting it to see if it's going to work OK. Do not ask me how I know this. (It's called "geyser" for a good reason.)2. The first batch of water that comes roaring out of the pump is oily, presumably from the well-oiled mechanism inside the pump. You wouldn't want this water dumped in your garden or on other living things.3. What about the noise? I can't imagine a pump working well without making noise, but I found it quite tolerable, perhaps because I'm so happy to hear the sound of water rushing out instead of seeping in.I can't say anything about durability because I haven't had the pump long enough, but it's been put to very hard use for a week without a single problem.A final note--bless the kind person at Amazon who overnighted the pump to me even though it was officially too late for an overnight ship to happen that day. She/he must have figured that anyone who wanted a pump overnighted really needed it. I did. The pump arrived in the nick of time and prevented a basement flood.

auto start and shut off.
Replaced one I had for years and worked great. Happy new one exactly the same...recently ran 3 days of heavy rains. No problems. mine is under my bedroom little noisy when switching on and off , But that is small thing considering great service.

Great concept, but poor implementation.
I really wanted this pump to work. I read many reviews and the problems identified but it seemed to perfect for my application I had to try it. Upon receiving it I set up a test and applied some of the solutions identified in the reviews. In the initial tests did performed exactly as described. Feeling confidant, I ran a second set of tests in the application I wanted it for. It worked perfectly there as well; for a while. Then it decided to go into the 5 second pumping cycle with no regard to the depth of the water. I used a backflow preventer, a short hose, and positioned it level. But once it decided to go to the five second cycle, that was it. I think the concept of operation is very valuable for many applications but the manufacturer needs to find a better way of determining when it needs to turn on. Regrettably I Returned the unit.

After some trial "I" figured out how to make it work
They say it will pump through a standard 3/4" garden hose. Well it will but the hose can only be about 10 ft. long. I first hooked it up to a 50 ft. 3/4" hose and it would run for maybe 5 to 10 seconds and shut off. wait about 20 to 30 seconds and start and run again for about 10 seconds. I called the manufacture and they first told me to disconnect the hose and see how long it would run. It needed to reset the shut off valve. I disconnected the hose and it ran continuously. Great I hooked the hose back up and same problem. I called the manufacturer and they said that was normal. Then they said my hose was to long. ( that's when I cut an old hose I had and it worked fairly well. I was getting ready to package it up to return it when I came up with the idea to purchase a plastic fitting 1" NPT and screw it into the pump and some 1" plastic tubing. I connected it to the pump and it worked very well. I don't recommend it to be used with 3/4" garden hose.
