This flash works fine with my D 5200, and Metz lists it as compatible with Nikon, not by model numbers so it should work.

Q: what is the recycle speed to the next shot?

It's a matter of seconds. The key to recycle time will be your battery choice. I use high energy battery designed for electronic flashes. This is a great electronic flash.

Q: Will it work as a master in iTTL mode as well as slave?

I have not tried that, but according to the manual he answer is no. It can be used as a slave for cameras including Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax, and Sony using the camera's own master flash where supported. It does not work with Samsung cameras. The manual recommends model 58 AF-2 as master flash.
