This type of Brodart Book Jacket Cover is a roll of transparent Mylar book cover material manufactured with a white paper backing.  Mylar is a strong, chemically stable, transparent, polyester film that does not deteriorate.  The transparent Mylar polyester film is "bonded" or joined securely to this paper backing by a permanent glue or a heat press + adhesive process, meaning the paper backing is not intended to ever be removed or separated from the Mylar cover.  However, if necessary, the Brodart Book Jacket Cover you've installed could be removed from your book dust jacket and the book quite easily.The paper backing makes it easy to get the cover on nicely because it has an opening in the middle to allow insertion of the book's dust cover, and once inside, the dust cover is held firmly and doesn't slide around or come loose.  Neither the paper backing nor the bonded adhesive joints where the Mylar is permanently bonded or fixed to the backing paper can be seen from outside the book once you've finished putting the book cover on because it's inside the dust jacket.  It makes a nice finished look and the paper backing does not get in the way while reading the book.The backing paper is open in the center the whole length of the roll.  My way of doing the book covers is not the only way, but first I take the book's dust cover off and lay it on a large working surface (like a tabletop), then roll out the Brodart material to the same length plus a little more, about a half-inch or so on both ends, then cut it off the roll as squarely as possible.  It is easy to cut with scissors if one is careful, but I'm not so I use a tabletop paper cutter like the Swingline Guillotine Trimmer.  Then open the center split in the backing paper and put the dust jacket inside.  Make sure to face it the correct way so you can read the dust jacket through the transparent film cover!  I use a few short pieces of Scotch Magic tape (ordered from Amazon, tape dispenser together with six rolls of tape, item 810C40BK) during this process to make sure it doesn't move around, and just fold the excess height over rather than trying to center it vertically.  Don't use the Scotch tape on the outside of the Mylar, only on the backing paper where it won't be seen once you've finished.   Press the dust jacket down inside to the bottom of the Mylar cover fold to make sure it is straight with no wrinkles, then fold over the Mylar top and paper backing down so the dust cover text and imagery look good from top to bottom.  Smooth the fold down with the back of a spoon to crease it, then tape it on the backing paper to hold it.  Finally, put the newly-covered dust jacket back around the book.  I usually use a dash or two of the Scotch Magic tape to affix the new cover on so it doesn't move or come off, but that is not, strictly speaking, necessary. One final bit of advice - unless you are adept with folding paper or doing craftwork with your hands, practice on two or three unimportant books first to get the hang of doing it.  Also, I first saw this done in a bookstore by one of their staff, so it might be possible to ask the assistance of a bookseller.

What to use for 10 inch books? 10 exactly or 12?

The 10" covers are not adjustable and are stronger at the edge. They fit 10" and 9.75" books. The 12" covers I bought are adjustable (fold over), so will fit 12" and smaller.

About how many books does 20 yards cover?

Well, your average 10" book takes about 18" to cover. 20 yds= 60 ft.= 720 inches. 720 divided by 18= 40.  About 40 books. Of course, not all 10 " books are the same width. That is just an average.

Question 4

By applying this to my dust jacket will it help hold down permanently folded/bent corners of the cover? I have a damaged dust jacket I'm trying to fix

I don’t know. It’s a plastic sheet that you fold around the book covers to protect them. It should hold the dust jacket in place, but whether it will “fix” it, I can’t answer.
