LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS IRON
I just received the " Maytag Speed Heat Steam Iron & Vertical Steamer with Stainless Steel Sole Plate, Self Cleaning Function " last week & all I have to say is that " I REALLY LOVE THIS IRON ", it is by far the best iron I have EVER had or owned. I read ALL the reviews on this iron, before I decided to even by this iron, but since everyone has their personally own view points on what they like or don't like about something or a product, that they buy or get, you still have to be your judge when buying a product & what works for you & your lifestyle, but like I said, I just REALLY LOVE THIS IRON & also loves the way it will just shut itself off, if left to long without using it, but as soon as you pick the iron up to use it again, the light will come on to let you know that it has turned back on & heats up REALY quickly in no time, so that you can get on with your ironing needs & the way it just glides over what you are ironing, is just amazing to me, because the iron I have now, before I bought this iron, really didn't do that or did it really iron the way I like, but that's probably because it was a " REALLY " light weight iron & you had to apply a lot of pressure on the iron when ironing, to get the results you needed, which is NOT AT ALL the case or what the " " Maytag Speed Heat Steam Iron & Vertical Steamer with Stainless Steel Sole Plate, Self Cleaning Function " does for me now. I am SO glad that I decided to purchase & get this iron, so I am a VERY happy person & love ironing now more than ever before & I also love the price of this iron as well. because with even the more high priced irons that you may get, you still might not get the results you really need out of an iron, you just pay a higher cost for them, but this iron does what I need it to do, it's a lot more heavier than the iron I had before, I love the feel of it when ironing & it's also in my favorite color, which is " BLUE ", which is ALWAYS a plus.

Good Medium-Priced Iron - Recommended
This is a good iron for the money. After trying 2 Rowenta irons from COSTCO and 1 Sunbeam Steammaster iron from here (Amazon), this iron has proven awesomely better. Previous to the Rowentas I had an iron that was a decade old and finally quit - I guess I can't get one like that again. Then came the 2 Rowentas and the Sunbeam. They lasted less than 1 year each, failing for different reasons. I had to to oder two of these Maytag irons, BTW: the first one had obviously been used (there was water in the tank - sheesh! - and the box was crushed) and it had to be re-returned. The second one I got was new, and it has been fine. It heats up quickly, there is always enough steam with minimal dribbling/spitting, the steam distribution is very good (even), and even though it's nice and light it presses well for removing wrinkles. Some reviewers have complained about the small tank, or the tank being hard to fill. So far, that has not been an issue for this user - filling a little more often is no big deal, and actually hardly noticed. However, this is for just a few people - if you are ironing a lot of clothes for more than about 3 people, maybe it's an issue. It's not much harder to fill as other irons I have used in the past, I just keep the water in a small dispenser near the ironing board. I would say: don't pass up this iron if that is your only concern and you are in this price range (under $70-ish). If it lasts more than 1 year, this is a complete winner.

WARNING! Careful of the settings knob. If pulled off, the iron is TOAST! Can't put it back together.
*** UPDATE *** I had an unexpected "calamity" happen. I was pulling my M400 iron out of a storage box and while trying to free it (wedged in by some other things), I accidentally grabbed the settings knob. Well, it pulled off. Now, nothing actually broke. But, it came apart in 3 pieces. There's the knob, a white plastic shaft, and a small metal pin. The knob has 4 plastic prongs on it that secure it into the body, and there's a slot in it for the shaft that requires a certain orientation. So it's possible to put back on, and I did so... but the iron wouldn't heat up properly any longer. It's that pin... and I think it's supposed to help out with the function. But there's truly no obvious place for it! A real mystery. I called up MAYTAG and their customer service (800-898-6970) was very friendly. The person told me that they've had several returns for this. No way to advise me on how to put back together. The result? They're sending me a replacement and then I have to mail the old M400 back with a pre-paid label. So, KUDOS to Maytag Customer service, but man... a negative for the product design team. This is otherwise a terrific iron, but be VERY CAREFUL about that settings knob. If it gets pulled off, your iron won't work right any longer even if you manage to put the knob back on properly. It's that pesky critical metal pin where there's really no indication of where it goes. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ There are so many cheap irons available on the market today. These appliances really haven't changed much over the past 25 years, so it's now a commodity. Thus, most brands continue to cheapen the materials and speed up the process to reduce overhead and increase profits. Then there's an abrupt jump in price when going from lower to upper tiers. Not much available in the mid range (about $50). I got this iron on sale for $35, when it's normally around $45~$50. The fact plate is polished stainless steel, which is really the ideal surface for long term use. Those coated face plates eventually wear off and leave debris on your clothes. As long as you keep the stainless steel clean, it'll work great for the life of the iron. Feature wise it's a little above basic. There are multiple steam settings, a water sprayer, water level indicator, temperature level indicator, self-cleaning, 3-way auto shut off, and overheat warning. It's very easy to fill with water (Maytag supplies a small flask to assist with it), although the water level view is a bit subdued making it a little challenging to see in dim light. The iron heats up fairly quickly and provides ample steam. Another nice touch is that while the cord isn't retractable, it has a swivel joint (you don't often see those). The cord is heavy duty, yet the plug isn't grounded for versatility of sockets. I haven't owned it long, but for the initial uses I have to say that I'm very satisfied. I've seen some reports of reliability complaints, but at least there is a 2 year warranty. Some people reported leaks, but I filled mine up and turned it upside down, with no leaking. Still, it is recommended to empty the reservoir between ironing sessions.

I hate ironing. Just hate it. This little iron is just my speed. Super easy to figure out, simple dial to set temperature, great weight, amazingly quick to get to temperature, and does the trick. Only drawback is that it's corded, and the cord (like any corded iron) can be a bit annoying. All in all, a great iron. Highly recommended.

Perfect basic iron… lightweight , does everything that it should, has steam feature too … the expensive ones aren’t worth it

Bought this to replace a (slightly) cheaper T-Fal model that dripped all over the place every move you made. Zero dripping with this iron (FINALLY, the T-Fal wasn't my first one to have that problem). Steam output is steady and constant, best I've ever seen in any iron. Makes such a big difference in speed: no need to go over every stretch of fabric 5 times, just up-down and done. There are no frills here, no ridiculous Ultra-Super-Glide-Space-Surface-2000 gimmicks, it's just a basic allround quality iron that does what it's supposed to do, and does it very well. The only minor negative is that you need to refill it more often than other irons, but if that's the price to pay for that amazing steam output, I'm all for it. I'd be lying if I said I now enjoy ironing, but I no longer hate it.
