Q: How wide is the blade? I understand the blade is 7" long but they don't say how wide? 4"? 5"?

Hello, this is 3 1/4 inches wide at the base and it tapers to approx. 6 inches long

Yes, it has a sharp edge. I love this tool because I can dig a hole with it or go dirt that has not been tilled for a long time. Las year I tilled up enough of a n area for a small vegetable garden using this tool only.

Q: Would the material of the handle work with getting an engraving on it?

It should. The handle is made of wood. I love this tool.

Q: Does it matter whether you are right or left-handed when using this tool?

I would say that it is a right handed tool. I bought a different one that is basically left handed, but not ordered online. It was at an asian market.
