Very happy with my first record player
I am writing this as someone who has no memory of ever using a record player before. So if you are a record/record player connoisseur, this may not be helpful for you, because it seems that people who have grown up with records or who have an extensive knowledge of these things are unhappy with this record player. However, to those of you who maybe want to start listening to records, I think this is a wonderful first record player! I don't find the sound bad at all and it definitely is loud enough for me. I mean, it's not a huge sound system, but I can't imagine why you would be expecting that with records or with something like this. I love it for what it is. It has a great sound with the records that I have, it plays them great, it's easy to use, and it's cute and convenient. I can bring this easily to other areas of my house, or ever to friends houses without any issue. I am very happy with this purchase!

Get ready for the Sock Hop!
This is the coolest little record player ever. Its works fine as a regular record player and the software is easy to use when you want to convert your old records into electronic files. One thing to note is that if you plug in the USB cable you must have the software installed and open to get the player to work. At first I thought it was broken because it wouldn't spin up. But then I realized that the software has a built-in awareness of the "start and stop" of the player and to a certain extent the player can be controlled through the software. Hense if you plug in the USB the player waits for commands from the software. If you want to just listen to the player it has a built in speaker that will take you back in time. It's pretty good for a basic player, but if you are an audiophile, you will want to plug in an external speaker. I loved the design of the case and my only complaint is that they didn't allow any extra room inside the case to put the power cable when you box it back up. It will fit if you are creative, but be careful not to crimp anything or push down too hard on the platter. Dig out those old vinyl records people and harken back to yesteryear!

A good record player
I purchased this accidentally, and when it got here I was really curious so I opened it carefully and take a few listen before I return this. PRO 1. It's a nice looking record player! I'm in college and it goes well with my room style (in fact, any style you have). 2. Very light and PORTABLE! I could carry this with me to my friend's house, hook a nice speaker and I can have a record player anywhere.. but probably not a good idea if you have to carry your vinyls around, but you get the idea. 3. Sounded "vintage" - I have no idea how to put this into words, but the little built in speakers, they had a small "echo" to it and made it sounded "oldie, vintage" OK probably that doesn't help :/ anyways.. CONS 1. A lot of bad reviews, including this record has a ceramic needle and well, it's heavier than those magnetic/metal needle so, it will damage your records, faster (depends how often you listen to them). But NOT TOO WORRY, this is still a good player if you just want to listen/play records. 2. all plastic, meaning.. this is not that durable, but for the price, it's not something you would want to fix, you would simply throw this and buy a new one. If you want a long lasting one, invest in something more expensive like $200+ turntables. 3. It's a belt driven, so don't try your DJ wannabe act with this player. 4. No matter how good your speakers/headphones are, the sound won't get any better. Ok, let me elaborate.. The little speakers will sound like, well.. little speakers and could be worse than your awesome premium desktop speakers; to be honest, my macbook pro speakers sounded better compared to the built in speakers on Crosley's.. I plugged in my B&W P3 on the headphone jack, and boom! nope, sounded awful, same as the little speakers only a bit amplified because the P3 was in my ears. I tried the RCA, going through my pre-amp and to the speaker I used for my Stanton turntable, and the sound improved greatly! But still bad! so, if you're an audiophile, don't get this, ever! you will either be disappointed or you'll keep this as a keepsake (because this looked really nice on a shelf). I wouldn't mind getting this as a gift though but if I want to spend my money on it, I would mind..because I'm an audiophile. If you are looking for a player than can play vinyls or you're on a budget, or you don't care about sound quality that much, or you just like the looks, or you have too much money you have no idea where to spend, GO AHEAD and BUY THIS! If you're an audiophile, sound quality matters to you A LOT, you have $300 budget, you got nice speakers/headphones, you want a long lasting player, you want to do some DJ-ing, you don't want to damage your records faster, probably you want to look at some other brands like Audio Technica.. their AT-LP60 is right under $100 and their AT-LP120 is below $300.

Reasonable expectations fulfilled
Quite simply, this is an awesome product, in my opinion. I simply wanted something portable, versatile, simple, and inexpensive. The speaker quality is good, and plenty loud enough for a single room. I have not yet tried to make use of the conversion feature, though all the instructions are included and seem easy to follow. I purchased a power cord that works through the cigarette lighter in my car and reaches through to my hatchback trunk, so that's pretty fun too. The product looks good, sounds good, and works good.

Well, it plays records...or rather, played. Only lasted 9 months.
I bought the Crossley CR6019A Executive Portable Record Player (in black) based on several key criteria: 1. Size - I needed something that would fit on a small bookcase. The player fits nicely. 2. Appearance - I wanted a record player that had a somewhat vintage look, and this one looks really nice. 3. Functionality - Obviously the record player has to play records and produce some quality of sound. Moreover, the fact that this is advertised with fully automatic tone arm return was a pretty nice selling point. I wasn't expecting extremely high quality sound at this price and planned to plug into better speakers. With the look, size, and advertised features going for it, I decided to give the CR5018A a shot. After using it almost daily for several weeks, I'm very pleased with the look and size - it's extremely portable too, which is nice. The speakers produce sound, but because they're such small speakers, that sound lacks any richness. I've hooked the record player up to a pair of Bose computer speakers and the sound is vastly improved. Moreover, when I listen on headphones, it's great. My biggest complaint, and the reason this record player only gets two stars is the tone arm. First of all, it does NOT automatically return, which is a source of disappointment and frustration. The record player does offer the option of automatically shutting off when reaching the end of a side, but that's all. Second, the tone arm lift assembly must be slightly warped. If you lift using the lever, the tone arm will not hover over its home resting position - the position that shuts off the turntable. It slips slightly to one side or the other, which means that unless you physically hold the tone arm in place, it will not drop into its cradle. Nor will it shut off the turntable so you can flip the record. It's a major flaw that makes basic operation fairly unwieldy. I really love the look of this record player, so I've asked Amazon.com for a replacement. Assuming the issues are a result of a single defective unit, I'll update my review accordingly. Edit: I received Amazon.com's replacement today and tested the unit to see if my original was defective. I'm guessing that it's just poorly designed. This one doesn't have automatic tone arm return either. Additionally, when I lift the tone arm using the lever, it behaves identical to the first unit - the arm slides quickly to the left. This indicates to me that the entire line of record players doesn't allow for simple or effective tone arm return--automatic or manual. The sound is still only adequate, but I'm using external speakers, so that improves things immensely. I REALLY love the look of this record player. What a shame that it fails at some of the most basic functions. Update: I've had the player 9 months and it's developed a short where the power cord plugs into the unit. The cord appears to be fine, but to get the player to receive power, you have to jiggle the cord in the connector on the back of the player until the unit makes a connection. Sigh...useless piece of junk.

Nice little portable record player
This is a "nice" little record player which I purchased for my 24 year old daughter. It's easy to set up and produces an acceptable sound for a one or two small room environment. I would consider this an entry-level record player and as such there are no bells or whistles to speak of. Power is supplied by a standard off the shelf DC converter. There is a simple on/off volume control knob which are the limits of the sound control. There is a spped control switch and an auto-stop on/off switch Pros: 1. I really like the "briefcase" style as this will allow my daughter to safely store and then pull this out to use as needed. This also allows her to easily take it to her friends homes for LP sessions. 2. The sound is acceptable and the volume adequate for a single room environment. Cons: 1. Listening carefully, I can pick up on a fluctuation in the sound indicative of an inconsistent motor speed. This fluctuation, which very minor, is noticeable. This could also be band related or bearing related. 2. Using a standard type AC to DC converter is handy - and cost saving for the manufacturer, but then there should have been some way to provide for storing the converter in the case itself - or at least attached to the case. As is, having the adapter completely separate makes it easy to forget when taking the player on the road. 3. While there are small feet on the bottom of the case to protect it when it's standing up, when the case is laid down and opened up for use, there is no effective protection for the nice case surface to keep it from getting scratched or scuffed during use. I found that keeping a microfiber cloth enclosed in the case for the purposes of setting it down under the case while opened up alleviates my worries. 4. When the auto stop is turned on and the record has finished playing, the turntable automatically stops... this is great. However, once the arm is lifted, as you return the arm back to the arm rest position, the turntable starts up again and once the arm is over the rest, the turntable stops again. This unnecessary starting and stopping of the turntable puts undue pressure on the motor as well as could shorten the life of the band. 5. The turntable pad is not attached to the turntable. While this is not necessarily a bad thing, what happens is when the case is closed and being transported, the slightly thick rubber turntable pad, comes off the turntable and ends up bouncing around the inside of the case which could end up damaging the needle, the knob or other components. At the very least, what I found is that the rubber pad falls to the bottom of the case and while sitting there in storage gets bent out of shape. What then happens is when the pad is put into use while playing a record, it doesn't sit flat on the turntable and subsequently, the record doesn't sit flat on the turntable and while playing a record, causes the arm and the needle to constantly undulate up and down which could lead to excessive wear on the needle and the record. The bottom line: A nice player but given the engineering issues, which could have easily and relatively inexpensively been overcome, I don't feel that the $99 ...ish price is a good value. The player looks nice and the case seems to made reasonably well, but functionally I would feel that a more acceptable price for this item would be in the $60 to $80 price range. When I bought this for my daughter, I was thinking that I may end up getting one for myself as well... but after using hers for a bit, I'll be looking for other alternatives.

Perfect for what it is
I struggled with whether to give this item 4 or 5 stars. In the end, I chose 5 because, in my opinion, it is perfect for what it is: A great entry-level, easily portable or stored, USB turntable option. It remarkably reminds me of the vintage player I had as a kid in the late-70s/early-80s. And, it sounds about the same (meaning, passable but obviously not great). As a solution that allows me some nostalgia, to play records for my kids ("Hey Mom, what are those things?"), to bring my vinyl collection back to life, and then store somewhere in a closet until next time, it is great. As for the USB aspect, it took only a minute to configure my laptop (using Windows8.1) to see the turntable. It took a few more minutes and a reboot to install the software and make an actual test file. But, the main steps were detailed in the included documentation and additional details were available on-line. That said, one tip, the version of Audacity provided on CD is now obsolete, so be sure to go to the Audacity website to get the latest version.

Fun Portable Record Player
If you're looking for a simple, inexpensive, and somewhat stylish way to play your records, and you're not overly concerned with high-fidelity sound, this is a great unit. Considering the price, I was happy enough with the quality. The fact that it worked right out of the box was fantastic since I have purchased two similar units, from a different manufacturer, that were DOA. This one is actually built with reasonable quality (again, considering the price). Obviously, if you want high quality stereo sound, this is not the product for you, and it's probably best to get a turntable, amp and speakers.
