Q: Does it heat water automatically

No, but through trial and error, I've found that the best solution is half tap water as hot as it can get, and half boiling water. I used this in combination with with Resolve carpet cleaner (1 1/2 reservoir cap fulls), and it did an excellent job cleaning an absolutely grungy path of beige carpet from almost black to indistinguishable from the other areas. Also, the spin brush is overrated - it's good for upholstery, but use the standard brush on stairs.

Q: Does this produce Steam? If not why is it falsely advertised if it does not even heat the water let alone produce steam.

It does not heat the water nor produce steam.

Q: Would this vac, along with the: Hoover Platinum Collection Pet Plus be able to get cat urine AND the smell, out of the carpet effectively?

not unless the pet plus cleaner has enzymes that will get rid of the urine. dried urine creates an ammonia crystal which is very difficult to get out of fibers. They have to be broken down with enzymes and regular soap just doesn't do that. I suggest using VERY hot water and vinegar on the area, then using the vac over it. You need to let the vinegar sit on the area to saturate it before scrubbing and vacuuming so that it can penetrate the area. If that doesn't work, Nature's Miracle is a great enzymatic cleaner. Or try Biokleen Bac-Out, which what works for us. We have 2 cats and I've used it several times.

Q: does it require the Hoover detergent? what type of detergent should I buy for carpet no pets?

I think in order to keep the warranty valid you are supposed to use their hoover carpet shampoo. But FYI I use mine in my rentals and my tv room that does house my dogs and I use bleach and hot hot water to clean the carpets. They come out great. I always color test a new carpet first in a discreet location to make sure it is color fast and once it dries and I see that there is no fading I clean it.
