In Sorte Diaboli

I am a huge fan of Dimmu Borgir, have been listening to them for years and love all their albums except the first. My fav albums have to be Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia and Spiritual Black Dimensions. Having said that, I think their last two albums have achieved a level of difficulty one can only enjoy after listening to the album for months.There are so many layers to this album, at first it put me off but now I think it's brilliant. The DVD extras were really awesome, there's even more on Youtube, as the European release had even more "Making Of" footage.I notice a lot of fans said this sounds like Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia mixed with Death Cult Armageddon, but perhaps that is what they are currently defining their sound as. BTW I think the US bonus track for this album is a beautiful song, the vocals are amazing. Can't wait to see what they come up with next!

Such an amazing album from a brutally awesome band. This is one of my goto albums for whenever, bad day, crank it up, best day ever, why not summon a demon and celebrate. This album is on point lyrically and musically, Shagrath's vocals are amazing and along with the amazing guitar play from Galder and Silenoz, this is by far one of thier best albums.Give it a listen, drive the neighbors crazy and shake the foundations of hell with this awesome band.

What more can really be said this is Dimmu Borgir. In extreme theatrical black metal style they deliver another masterpiece that will keep them on top in their genre. They take some getting used to which I'm still working on but you can't knock these guys for the talents and abilities they demonstrate in this album. It is finely produced at every point and like other cds by this band you get a eerrie evil feeling listening to them which means they are good at what they do. If you like black metal then dont fail to pick this new one by Dimmu Borgir you won't be disappointed by any means.

With the crisp symphonic sound of the Puritanical album combined with the power and mighty orchestral sound of Dimmu Borgir's Death Cult album, In Sorte Diaboli is definately NOT an album that dissapoints. With the melodic structure of an orchestra, they tie black metal's most brutal sounds of fast drumming, deep and clean vocals, and guitars that will blow your ears out together with such complexity that only the lyrics can match. In Sorte Diaboli is by far one of their greatest achievements to date, and is surely an epic album in the entire genre of black metal, keeping true to the "satanic, anti-christian, and anti-religion," lyrical themes that black metal, for the most part, is based on. Do NOT pass up this album.

Dimmu Borgir have always had an unhealthy interest in satanism, so it was only natural that they eventually came round to writing a concept album all about it. "In Sorte Diaboli" tells the story of a priest in the time of the crusades who begins to doubt his faith in God and christianity, and begins a path down the road to becoming the antichrist. This, I have to say, seems like a pretty cool concept, and one that works pretty well with Dimmu's music. The beginning of the story is explained in a short text in the album booklet, and the rest continues in the lyrics of the songs. Unfortunately, they never seem to have got very far into the concept, as the protagonist seems to fall into satanism in the first song, which leaves around another 7 rather general songs about satanism until he is eventually burned at the stake in the final song.The music is, predictably, pretty damn heavy! As very heavy metal goes, theres not much to say against it... There are plenty of good riffs, killer drumming and Shagrath displays a more impressive vocal range than usual. On the downside, Dimmu seem to have gone a bit over the top with proving how "evil" and "black metal" they are, and on the whole neglected the melodic side of their music. Particularly given the concept, the album would have hugely benefitted from more inclusion of the eerie keyboards and backing choirs which a few of their songs hint at. Nonetheless, "In Sorte Diaboli" easily stands up to their last few albums, although it is true that there isn't a huge amount of variety between songs.The atmosphere and style of music is seriously black and evil, and there are some fantastic moments. The highlight is obviously the single and opening track "The Serpentine offering", with a fantastically dramatic orchestral-sounding opening, some of their ocasional operatic clean vocals and a crushing riff. "The Conspiracy Unfolds" and "The Sacriligious Scorn" also hit dramatic musical highs, although none of the songs are particularly poor. On the whole, the concept and lyrics could have done with a bit more work and there is a marked lack of some of their more melodic elements which could have worked well, but on the whole, this is Dimmu Borgir doing what they do best.

Bought for partners birthday. Arrived in plenty time. Was in really good condition. A really good quality, well designed box set. He was chuffed with it.

The album itself is great and that's why I bought the vinyl. Unfortunately I have to admit that the sound quality is insufficient for it sounds like a low quality mp3.

Great album from Dimmu Borgir, would reccomend this to any fan of the band.

Es gibt grandiose Ausdrücke neuzeitlicher Musik, die weit über einen modernistischen Rock-Stil hinausgehen! Und würde man annehmen, dass Dimmu nichts anderes tun als dem heiligen Diabolus zu huldigen, hat man hier die falsche Norwegian Black Metal Band gewählt. Geh zu Gorgoroth, Giaur! Dimmus Biss gilt der gesamten Menschheit. Seine Schwärze meint alles menschlich geschaffene, das trennt und vernichtet. Diese Band hat eine musikalisch schöpferische Ader und Aura, die mehr als alles andere Neuzeitliche in Musik schmettert und eine Botschaft hinterlässt: Auge um Auge, Zahn um Zahn. Schlägst du mich, schlage ich zurück. Nichts anderes als Richard Wagners Charaktere der Stärke bilden hier das Hauptthema. In Sorte Diaboli, nur zu gern nach dem Wunsch des Teufels, sind wir gestrickt. Und weder die Propheten Mohammed und Jesus, Shiva und Konfuzius können daran etwas ändern. Nur du selbst.Sound und Performance dieses Albums sind so eindrucksvoll, dass mir die Worte hierzu immer schon fehlten. Und jede Hörerin, jeder Hörer muss sich bewusst sein, dass er mit diesem Album ein musikalisches Terretorium betritt, das nur Erwachsene mit Vollbart in jeder Körperzone ertragen. Aber wer diesen gordischen Knoten einmal durchschlagen, den Zugang zu Dimmu Borgir gefunden hat, erhört ein Album explizit eingängiger Einzigartigkeit. Musik gewordener Anti-Christus, ein Schwert gegen jede vereinnahmende Art von religiöser Bevormundung, aber auch eins, das sich gegen den eigenen, persönlichen Diabolus richtet...Diese Vinyl-Ausgabe kommt perfekt designet im Gatefold mit viel mystischem Krimskrams. Man hat auf jeden Fall viel zum Anschauen dabei. Aber am wichtigsten ist der unglaubliche Sound dieses Vinyls! ...und eben seine Botschaft: Es braucht keine Art von Gott, um frei und gerecht zu sein. Nur Dich!

Bei diesem Album braucht man nicht viel zu sagen: DImmu Borgir wie man sie kennt. Bombastischer Klang und Mucke, die einem düsteres Kopfkino beschert. Wie auch alle andere Alben, empfehle ich dieses an alle Fans von düsterer Metal Mucke. ICh könnte weiter ind Deatil gehen, aber macht euch doch bitte eure eigene Meinung. Ich bin doch nicht euer Johan;-)

Das 2005er Re-Recording von STORMBLÅST mal nicht mitgerechnet.Was kann man also nach der langen Zeit von IN SORTE DIABOLI erwarten?Im Prinzip haben Dimmu Borgir das Konzept ihres Geniestreichs aus dem Jahre 2003 weitergeführt. Mit dem Unterschied, dass die orchestralen Einlagen deutlich reduziert wurden und dafür die Gitarren wieder mehr braten. Dafür sind besagte orchestrale Einlagen punktgenau platziert und fügen sich gut ins Klangbild ein und wirken auch nicht überladen.Shagrath keift ganz ordentlich ins Mikro und die Clearvocal-Einlagen von Vortex sind wie immer toll. Nur hat man manchmal das Gefühl, dass sie nicht so recht ins Lied passen. Die beste Leistung von Vortex kann man in THE SACRILEGIOUS SCORN hören. Da stimmt wirklich alles. Nicht umsonst einer der besten Songs vom Album!Durch eine insgesamt kürzere Spielzeit der Lieder und dem deutlich zurückgefahrenen Orchester sind die Songs im Einzelnen sehr kompakt geworden. Das heißt aber nicht, dass die Songs deswegen eingängig wären – ganz im Gegenteil.IN SORTE DIABOLI ist ein Album, dass seine Zeit braucht. Ich denke, dass es bei den Wenigsten auf Anhieb zündet. Und wer das Album nach den ersten Durchläufen eher ernüchternd findet, sollte der Scheibe eine Chance geben. Hat man erstmal den Zugang zu den Liedern gefunden erwartet einen ein gut durchdachtes Konzeptalbum, dass musikalisch und atmosphärisch auf ganzer Linie überzeugen kann und es hoffentlich auch tut.Zu den Highlights zählen für mich THE SERPENTINE OFFERING mit seinem genialen Intro, dass Erinnerungen an Star Wars wach werden lässt, der Bonustrack THE ANCESTRAL FEVER (die Drums in dem Stück sind einfach nur gigantisch), das schon erwähnte THE SACRILEGIOUS SCORN und THE SINISTER AWAKENING.Allerdings muss ich auch sagen, dass IN SORTE DIABOLI nicht das übermegagigantische Killeralbum ist, dass Nuclear Blast einem im Vorfeld hat erwarten lassen.Nichtsdestotrotz haben Dimmu Borgir hier astreine Arbeit abgeliefert!

Mittlerweile kann ich es nicht mehr hören...das Gejammer, das Dimmu Borgir kein Underground-Act mehr sind, zuwenig Blast-Beats, zuviel Bombast etc. Das ist doch eine reine Neid-Diskussion, von Vorort Kapellen angezettelt, die vor dreißig Leuten spielen, sich mit Gummi-Noppen schmücken und mit Kunstblut übergießen. Ich selber bin kein ausgesprochener Black-Metal-Fan, alleine weil ich diese megaböse, menschenverachtende Attitüde der meisten Genre-Bands einfach nur zum kichern albern finde. Ich finde wenn man über dreissig ist, sollte man sich einfach mehr keine künstlichen Eckzähne ankleben...Dimmu Borgir sind DEFINITIV kein Underground (mehr) und wer danach sucht, sollte den Rezensionen von Mühlmann im Rockhard folgen. Und nun zu diesem Package: Es ist einfach nur geil! Der Black Metal a la Dimmu Borgir ist in Reinkultur nur noch in einzelnen Riffs und der Keyboardarbeit erahnbar. Selbst der Gesang könnte von einer x-beliebigen Göteborg-melodic-Death Kapelle stammen. Grandios sind dagegen alle 10 Tracks auf dieser CD. Alles ist stimmig und liebevoll arrangiert und für ein Meisterstück wie "The serpentine offering" würde sich mancher Metaller die kunstblutverklebten Haare auf 1cm trimmen lassen. Ausserdem finde ich es genial Baphomet ins Spiel zu bringen. Auch wenn dieser Teufel Titten hat, steckt da einiges dahinter, was ein richtiger Satanist sowieso mit der Muttermilch eingesogen haben sollte. Eine geniale CD, ein hintergründiges Artwork und eine Platte, die auch mancher Melodic-Death oder mancher Power-Metal Poser mal ohne Berühungsängste anchecken sollte.

Más que contenta por haberlo adquirido, es la edición especial limitada, que trae un dvd y the heretic hammer como canción extra que no trae la versión normal. Obviamente me llegó en excelentes condiciones y súper rápido.

El disco es una joya de la que no se puede quejar ,sin embargo el disco llego increíblemente maltratado soy un coleccionista y me gusta exhibir mis CD compre toda la discográfica de Ghost y nunca tuve un problema hasta este, no puede exibir una "edición especial" en este estado por eso las 3 estrellas

llego en perfecto estado y nuevo como se publica se los recomiendo , buen producto , vale la pena su compra
