Yes indeed it makes your system sound much better when you install a crossover or a equalizer. I recommend just install a equalizer instead of a crossover but you can install both of you want! Basically the both of them to the same thing.

Q: Whats the difference between this and a clarion or a expensive crossover?

Just like everything else sometimes the more it cost the better but I didn't see much of a difference it worked great for me

Q: Will this increase the signal to the amp (Add a little volume)?

Yes to the first question. Volume I am not to sure that it does.
