Demi Moore will never top any rational list of great actresses, but as her career stalled in the mid-1990s she had enough internal fire and external physicality to be just right for her title role in G.I. Jane. Her character's name isn't Jane--it's Jordan O'Neil--but the fact that she lacks a penis makes her an immediate standout in her elite training squad of Navy SEALs. She's been recruited as the first female SEAL trainee through a series of backroom political maneuvers, and must prove her military staying power against formidable odds--not the least of which is the abuse of a tyrannical master chief (Viggo Mortensen) who puts her through hell to improve her chances of success. I love this movie!! It’s all woman power. The story line is great. Without giving the show away, it’s a little political, has some sexism, some misogynistic views. Show cases some of the struggles women have had to go through to have rights within the military and becoming soldiers. It’s definitely worth watching. There is man power in the show too, I would recommend men to watch it too, plenty of macho men, war scenes that are super good!

Service is a calling
Love this movie. I always wanted to serve my Country, but asthma kept me out of military. So I live vicariously through good movies about service women. My daughter and her husband served, so proud of them.

Inspiring!!!
I loved this movie! I really enjoyed it! This is an amazing story, put together very well with a lot of action and suspense. We watched this movie for motivation, to overcome adversity, and to fight against the odds.

Intense and Violent Training and Combat Scenes
As was posted by another reviewer, the 1998 DVD (UPC 717951000316) (from Hollywood Pictures) comes with English subtitles for the deaf and hearing impaired (SDH). I did not realize this at first, since the film begins immediately after the standard piracy warning, with no menu screen. Once the film ended, up popped that menu screen; on a second run-through, I found that hitting the menu button on the remote brought up the menu once the film had started. My television has a 16:9 widescreen; as noted in the description, this DVD has a 2.35:1 format, thus there was a black bar at the top and bottom of the picture, but it was viewable. That having been said, I enjoyed this movie overall, even given that watching the training and battle scenes -- which included what appeared as live ammunition being fired at the trainees, a lot of abusive yelling, violence, and bloody injuries -- gave me a brutal headache. As Smedley Butler so well pointed out, war is a racket unless it is absolutely necessary in defense of one's own country -- or an allied country defending itself -- and most American wars have not been. See Butler's book as well as, for example, The New Confessions of an Economic Hit Man, War Made Easy, and Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace.

Ein toller Film und die Besetzung mit Demi Moore in der Rolle als Jane, könnte nicht besser sein. Vonwegen ,Frauen beim Militär ,die macht nicht auf dicke Hose und zeigt ACTION! Diesen Film muß man gesehen haben.
