Q: how exactly do i use this? new to compass. simple answer appreciated

Hold it level and it will display the directions as on the arrows. It is great for a quick check of directions whilst in an unfamiliar environment. I would use something more sophisticated for accurate navigation using a map. Also note that the pointers are FLUORESCENT and not luminous.

Q: does it glow in the dark ? thanks

No. Personally, I would be using something rather more advanced for night navigation. It is more for a quick reference.
