Q: Do these move along on their own or do they need to be pushed?

Need to be pushed. Their selling point is more about the various songs they play and all the different car parks you can purchase that activate other musical features. Got them for my son when he turned 1 yo and at 19 months he still loves them. Great to play with at home but he also likes playing with while in his car seat as I'm doing errands.

You need to push them on your own. These cars are not motorized. There are a few trains that are motorized. You need to check their details where they state motorized.
