Comfy, but they run a little small and hot
Comfy right out of the box, so no break-in seems to be required. I'm usually a 13, sometimes a 12.5...so decided to go with a 13. My toes barely touch the end of the toe box, so they run a little small. Hope they will become a bit more roomy as they break in.Also, even though I have nice merino wool hiking socks, they seem to get a little steamy. I knew they wouldn't breathe as well as the non-waterproof version, but they don't seem to breathe as well as any of my previous fully-waterproof hikers either. I have Gore-Tex Ecco lightweight hikers and Gore-Tex Head heavy-duty hiking boots and neither of them are as toasty as these.UPDATE 7/29/13: I returned the 13s for 14s and now they fit really well...just like the rest of my size 13 shoes. Since switching to the bigger size I have not noticed that they run as hot as the previous pair. All in all, I am quite happy with them and the soles have excellent grip.My only complaint/wish is that they need a little more protection in the forefoot to protect the balls of the feet from rocks on the trail. I recently took them on a 9 mile hike with 3200 ft of vertical and could feel everything on the trail. By the end of the hike the balls of my feet were really tender and ready to be done for the day. A lightweight rock plate (like those that are often built into good trail running shoes) would be great.

The Perfect Pair Of Shoes!
Most people find the perfect fitting, feeling, looking pair of shoes only once or twice in a lifetime and these have been that for me. I don't know exactly what it is that my feet need (wide toe box, narrow heel, etc...), but these were comfortable from the first moment I put them on and have never given me a moment's trouble. They also look like the kind of thing I would wear. They've been durable despite a lack of TLC on my part too. I don't think the colours in the photos reflect the actual thing very accurately, but if anything they are better in person. "Charred" doesn't look nearly as two-tone as you'd expect based on the images. I'd call it much more of a uniform light tan or khaki color. The leather is good quality compared to most you find in this price range. The sole is fantastic with deep lugs and a firm grip on wet surfaces. It's worn away fairly rapidly, but higher density would trade away much of that traction. I really can't fault them in any way. They may run slightly small, but the leather relaxes after some wear which makes them fit like a glove. I hope Teva decides to offer a new version by the time these are completely gone, but I've grabbed another pair to get me through until then. This is definitely a shoe I'd recommed as worth a try!

Fit is a bit narrow!
Well, I am used to the very comfortable Keen hiking shoes and boots. So, with these a scoush bit too narrow I was disappointed at first I really thought it was too narrow, not somewhat small (problem with the choices) but decided to use them around the house to see if they would break in and fit a little bit better. They seemed to be about an 1/8th - not the 1/4 some reviewers say - too narrow and the toes seem right up there - without any room to move the toes. After a couple of hours they did fit, but still not as comfortable as my Keens. The heel counter is right on, and the fit is o.k. but not like Keen's. They beat Keen's pricing by a mile.I will keep them and order another pair of brown "hiking shoes" that are waterproof from Teva. All shoes that have these linings that are "waterproof" will wear with a bit of heat than others that do not. It is the nature of that membrane to be warmer and is a price you pay for having a water resistant - not proofed - pair of shoes. One reviewer took Teva to task because they were worn out - wearing them daily for work - after a couple of months. While daily wear may seem to be the thing to do, shoes need some time to breath and rest, just like the reviewer does when he works at a job. But a two day rest isn't enough. Like your clothes, give the shoes a break! That way they can continue to "produce" not on a daily basis but perhaps on alternate days, just like that reviewer.Yes, I will recommend these Teva hiking shoes, but give them three or four stars only.

My favorite shoe!!
I have been a Teva fan ever since my first pair of Omnium sandals a couple years ago. I decided to give the Riva's a try because my job will not allow sandals. These are the most comfortable shoes I have owned. I would say they run slightly on the smaller side. I normally wear a n 11 1/2 tennis shoe but sometimes a 12. A twelve in the Riva fit me perfect. The only issue I had when I first got them was that the uppers dug into my ankle bone a little bit for a few days. After about a week of wear that problem went away. They are also a lot wider in the toe area than a tennis shoe which worked out good for me. If you like the way the Omnium's fit and need a shoe that feels the same way, this is your shoe.

Comfortable out the the box
Hey,This is my second pair of teva hiking shoes. I bought the first pair on Woot when they had a very good price and the reviews seemed ok. I loved these shoes from the moment I put them on. They fit great (I bought a 1/2 size large as recommended) and were as comfortable as heck in my weekly hikes in the local state park and around my property, but still providing support and weather protection. Have held up great and were showing some wear,(after 2 1/2 years!) so went shopping for a new pair.Just received these and again the fit and comfort was great right out of the box. They will be my go to shoes for a 2 week European adventure in the near future. Will have to see how well they last to give an honest rating in a few months, that's why not 5 stars. Also, no longer a great dealas those back in 2014

Very comfortable and tough
Very comfortable and tough! It took 2 years of intense usage in all kinds of weather before I stopped using them. The fabric inside is really nice and strong and doesn't get stinky. Surprisingly (for me) it's good for all seasons (even during summer).

Best approach shoes
Superb approach shoes. I was surprised with Teva. Very light, comfortable and grippy. Comparable with much more expensive models (Lowa, Mammut...) Would recommend.
