Ronstan Splicing Kit (55376)

These are very easy to use. The nesting is nice, too. They are hollow and have a little tab to help pull line through (instead of trying to push it through). They are not as sturdy as more traditional fids, though. Don't use them as a handle! I prefer the Brion Toss splicing wand for most splices.

I was able to use this kit the day it arrived. Had been looking for a complete set of Fids in one kit and the Ronstan kit worked out perfectly. There is a small tooth at the back of the Fid that holds the line in place while your splicing so you don't need to tape the lines.

Still learning!~ I get a little better every time I do a new line. Works fine, but for the money you spend why not throw in a pusher in the tube for the larger lines. Until I buy a pusher I find that a plastic chop stick is working.

These are well made and polished. they are really the selma fids labeled also as ronstan. they are much simpler to use than samson or NER fids. they make splicing high tech lines such as dyneema or technora much more enjoyable. the well polished tips make it much easier to avoid fraying or severing fibers as you use them. in combination with a d-splicer, or even a bent piece of crab pot or lock wire, there should be no splice you can't do in high tech line.

Love these. What etchings on the smooth stainless barrel do not at all impede the travel of the fids. The half-open bay at the rear, along with the tiny hook, makes all the difference in the world. I had been struggling with splicing for years, and now I very much enjoy the task. These are the only brand and set I would suggest to friends. Thanks for making a solid product, folks. I'll passing this set down to my kids. But not now. They can wait.

These handle well and seem durable. I hadn’t spliced braided rope in years, and used hollow fids last time. These made short work of hollow braid and I managed a double braid splice on my 2nd try. Excellent product, wish I’d gotten it long ago.
